Hi everyone! So I was working on my new game called The game about your random life choices, when, I was trying to make a variable be set to 15 when the sprite was clicked but then it got set to 16 so nothing would appear. Then I made it so they would appear when the variable was 16 but it still wouldn't appear. Here is the code if you would like to look at it.
when this sprite clicked
if <(ButtonClicked) = [14]> then
set [ ButtonClicked] to [15]
end
Then it says that the ButtonClicked variable is 16 instead of 15.
Just to say it, I made 3 main sprites. A button that is on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right. It is on the far left sprite. So it senses what the ButtonClicked variable is so it can change costumes and hide or show them.
The code would look like this.
when green flag clicked
if <(ButtonClicked) = [15]> then
switch costume to [This Random Costume]
The reason I have the variable is because I don't want to make hundreds of messages and then it would just get crowded.

If they can put whatever they want in these scripts/chats that might be a problem, if not I don't see an issue

Because your oof variable is set to zero when you start the game, it's causing a stop all to occur in your HP sprite.

It relates to the player's health (so health or hp would be a better name in my opinion). It just needs initialising somewhere.
I wish I had a violet hat or hair, but all of the UGC items are just shoddy valk replicas or items for girls

Disclaimers will not change the way the Scratch Team judges whether a project should be on the site or not.

So, I was having a conversation with a user which resulted in them getting mad at me, calling me things, and telling me to get off their page.

Now of course I will respect this user's request and not continue to comment on their projects/profile, but that made me wonder if I did would that be a violation of the Community Guidelines? Would even interacting with the projects (hearting/staring) be a violation?

Scratch should add some kind of “Cloud Project” block where you can put in the link for one of your projects and transfer data in between your projects.
But i don't see something like that happening in a long time

Thank you, Igrov! How do you make temp3 equal multiple seperate numbers, though?
without a bunch of
<<> and <>>
Temp3 equal to multiple separate numbers? Are you referring to the first mentioned script? If so, try this:
Temp - List of the numbers for the numbered items to check.
Temp2 - The list searched in
Temp3 - What is searched for in those checked number items as a list
Temp4 - The answer
set [m v] to []
repeat (length of [Temp3 v] :: list)
change [m v] by (1)
set [i v] to [1]
set [Temp4 v] to [False]
repeat (length of [Temp2 v] :: list)
if <<[Temp2 v] contains (item (m) of [Temp3 v] :: list) ?> and <[Temp v] contains (i) ?>> then
set [Temp4 v] to [True]
end
end
end

I don't know how you would do it if you are referring to the other script, only because I would not know what it would mean to do that with the assumption that I have not alrighty done that. If I knew, I could definitely help you with that.

It is, so it might be what's ultimately used.
However, I'm probably gonna modify the front end a bit when implementing it.

The only issue with keeping it up year round is dealing with a consistent connection.
I live in the country, where a single storm can easily knock out power for extended periods.
Also that it's a garbage machine I plan on running a different site on after the fact. However, when I upgrade to a proper server rack, I'll consider it
Edit: that is to say, I'll host a permanent version on said hardware when I migrate the initial site to a proper server rack, which is in the works, just really slowly.
If you right click, you can add notes and drag them around.

I thought of a good idea that could make making projects easier in both an orginizational and mental way. What if we could group scripts together and/or make it soo that sprites can be put into folders? It would make it easier to keep track of scripts and sprites, not to mention it helps to prevent from having to scroll through an endless list of sprites or looking through a big jumbled mess of spaghetti code, only to fine the script you were looking for was under code.

Yo, whats good guys!

New update is out and the Supa Buddies have ARRIVED! If you read the Dog Man books, you know who the Supa Buddies are. If you didn't, well its a group of 3 heroes that you know are named Dog Man, Lil Petey, and 80-HD. But when they are the Supa Buddies, they are The Bark Knight, Cat Kid, and Lightning Dude. You can go to Dog Man's house and get your costumes from 80-HD (you can be any of them!) to go and save the world! Once you have your hero costume on, there will be bad guys throughout the city that you shall stop! The higher stars they are wanted, the more coins you get for bustin' em to jail! Enjoy

Daily 27/03

The sky does not belong to anyone.
You will understand after trying
Hell is not under our feet
There is nothing higher than the sky.
Everything has a purpose
the right way
This is the situation.
No time to think.
It doesn't matter now
Only in special cases

The vast sky above us holds a mystery that transcends ownership. It's a reminder of the infinite beauty and wonder that surrounds us, a constant presence that we gaze upon with awe and curiosity. Those who have tried to understand its secrets know that it holds more than meets the eye, that it is a realm of endless possibilities waiting to be explored. The idea that hell is not under our feet challenges our preconceived notions of what lies beneath us; it suggests that darkness and despair are not confined to earthly realms but can extend beyond our physical existence. In contemplating this notion, we come to realize that there is nothing higher than the sky, that its expanse reaches far beyond our reach and comprehension. Everything in the universe, from the smallest insect to the mightiest mountain, has a purpose in the grand scheme of things, each piece fitting together in a delicate balance that guides the flow of life. It's a reminder that there is a right way for things to unfold, a natural order that governs the world and shapes our existence. This is the situation we find ourselves in, a world full of complexities and uncertainties where every action carries weight and consequences. In this fast-paced environment, there is often no time to think, no luxury of deliberating over our choices; we must act swiftly and decisively to navigate the challenges that come our way. Yet, in the grand scheme of the universe, the intricacies of our individual lives may seem inconsequential, like a drop in the vast ocean of existence. It's a reminder that in the grand tapestry of life, our actions only truly matter in special cases, when they have the power to shape the course of history or change the world in meaningful ways. So as we look up at the boundless sky above us, let us remember that we are but small pieces in a much larger puzzle, each with our own unique role to play in the unfolding drama of the universe. And perhaps, in that realisation, we can find comfort and purpose in the knowledge that we are part of something far greater than ourselves, connected to the vast expanse of the cosmos above us.

I am making a horror game called “LIGHTS OUT” in chapter 1 it will be you entering a building, finding the location of the detained monster, and then the screen goes black, and then theres a crashing sound, chap 1 ends, chap 2: you are back in the building glass is everywhere the monster is not to be seen you explore more you see the light flicker more than usual, after a while of puzzles and exploring, you come across the 1st chase!! the monster charges at you, but only when the lights are on, if the lights are off he sprints at you, you can pick up a stun gun later on for other chases to slow him down!!

Thanks however my maze is much more complex and I wanted something to chase the player around, between walls.
This is actually a common enough problem in programming that you can just search “computer pathfinding” and get a load of results. However, the most commonly used algorithm I know of starts at the target (whatever you are trying to move to) and places a square there. This square has a value of 0. It then, on the edges of that square, creates 4 more squares, each with a value of one. If any of the “one” squares are touching a wall, they delete themselves. The one squares then place 4 more squares on their edges, each labeled “2”. If any of the “2” squares are touching a wall or are on top of another square, they delete themselves. This process repeats until a square hits the thing that is trying to move toward the target, upon which the entire process stops. The thing trying to move toward the target then only has to go from the highest numbered square to the lowest numbered square.
I tried that and it “worked” but i had to keep recreating the squares since the player is gonna be (probably) constantly moving around which means it would have to recreate all the squares again which lags the project out for a second.

Incase you don't know what I'm talking about, if you haven't seen my 3 previous posts i am having issues with a bullet, i want it to be a sideways, 2d shooter, in this case “Sprite 7” is the output of the bullet, “Bullets”, as the name suggests are the bullets, and “Bad guy” the receiver.

Use these if you wanna suggest me a script, because I really need help, the objective is that a bullet goes to the mouse pointer and continues until the edge, even after reaching the cursor. I appreciate if you send a script where “Sprite 7” is FACING the cursor, but in this specific case i need it to only point in these 2 directions: 90 and -90.

Thanks for anyone helping me!

I believe they meant a list of appropriate phrases that could erroneously get you muted, not a list of phrases that are actually inappropriate. It's probably unrealistic, but it's a decent idea in theory.
If ST believes that someone could get erroneously muted for something, they would remove it. They aren't actively trying to get people muted for little to no reason.
True, good point. I just find it annoying when you get muted for something and you don't know what you did wrong.

Once again, this form has been going on since 2013.
Here are, once again, my opinions on this;

A few years ago, I made a post here, explaining how this would be a horrible idea. And I stand with what my original post had written, it would be chaos!
If scratch were to convert all projects to 16:9, everything would break and look bad, as all projects were built with 4:3 in mind. Even if scratch team were to make it a toggleable option, people would still soon begin to migrate entirely to 16:9, and overall begin to prefer it. Leaving the poor 4:3 projects into dust as the child creators either don't want to, or don't know how to convert them into a 16:9 project. This would inevitably make everyone switch to 16:9 and 4:3 being removed in a later update due to inactivity.
Adding on, 4:3 is clean, simple and neat. The point of teaching programming to children on scratch is to have it be clean, simple, neat and easy to understand. A toggle would be confusing for younger kids, as they wouldn't know why their teachers screen is in 16:9 but theirs are in 4:3. So they'd all get confused and switch to the FAR inferior, Scratch JR, or even worse, the paid Tynker. Deserting the entire scratch website for probably indefinitely. (thanks to TheSmartGuy1234 for that)
Finally, have you ever heard of project storage limit? Projects can store only 50mb of code and 10mb of assets (sprites, costumes, music, etc), so unless they higher this limit (very unlikely) 16:9 would be incredibly awful for the 10mb asset storage limit, as you would need more space to draw your sprites, and thus, more storage usage.
People definitely have mixed feelings about this topic, and I respect your personal opinions on this matter, but my opinion is sealed indefinitely, as I am (most likely) leaving this discussion forever. Thank you for reading.

Critique

Overall, I really like the piece! It is very descriptive and flows quite nicely!

I think that in general, you need to add some more clarity to the piece. Because it is fan-fiction, you don’t need to do as much explaining, but it would be good if the reader could understand who the ‘Keymaster’ is or the ‘Crimson Wanderer.’ I think that if you made the first section a bit clearer, then it would elevate the whole piece. Also, if you maybe put some of the lines into one paragraph, instead of one line all by itself, it might just make it a bit easier to read. I would suggest keeping a couple lines by themselves though for suspense! However, your description is wonderful and you really create a sense of unease!

If you describe the scene a bit more as well, it would help the reader to understand your piece a bit more, because I only have a vague idea of what the Void looks like or the gate but that’s all from my imagination. This does give your reader lots of freedom in setting the scene for themselves though!

On the italics for ‘it’s the same and nothing will ever change this’ I think that you should only have one word in italics, like ‘same’ or ‘ever’ because the italics don’t have as much affect when they're in big phrases like that. I also find the last section where Kei’ says about him being the puppeteer, so if you could add in a tiny bit of explanation into that it might just clarify it a bit more. I think a few metaphors or similes might come of use!

This is an amazing piece full of dazzling adjectives and adverbs and really blew me away! Thank you so much for letting me critique your incredible writing!

Cool
Hello there!
Are you basically saying that you want to change the object that needs to be clicked or are you saying that you want to change the mouse pointer trail? I didn't understand your question, sorry. If you can show a picture of your code so far, maybe I can try to help.

i think the code word should be personalized, i liked that idea. perhaps “a word that describes you”? or something?
yeah

I was worried for a second that this could bring about some inappropriate responses but then I remembered the community guidelines exist lol and people can always report comments if they seem too negative. so I think most people will be reasonable with their codewords
i can always check to make sure that everyone's responses are scratch-appropriate, I think i'll be doing most of the comment managing anyway and it'd be a good way to know who to look out for
daily #27 - google translated song lyrics
song I chose: Tek It by Cafuné
“And how much patience can I expect? Hmm
And you can't just say spades.
i see the moon
let me control my mood
I can't stop thinking about you.
I'm looking at you (please let go now)
(and watch how things progress)
Nice to meet you”

“Are we there yet??” Sophie whined, burying her face in her book and groaning loudly.
Riley sighed, barely opening her eyes as she rested her head on the cold train window. “No, Sophie…you’ve asked a hundred times now. How much patience can I expect from you, hmm?”
“None,” Sophie decided indignantly, before glaring at her book. “Ugh, my book still smells like smoke, and I hate it!”
Sophie chucked her book away, and Riley winced as it landed on the floor in front of another passenger a few paces away from them. Riley flashed a frown at her little sister.
“Don’t do that, Sophie,” she warned, colouring with embarrassment. “It’s impolite. Go get your book and apologise immediately.”
Sophie slumped in her seat and crossed her arms. “I just want to go back home. Where are we even going, anyway??”
Riley shook her head and resumed to lean on the window; she was too tired to argue right then.
She felt a hand tap her shoulder and turned to see a boy around her age standing in front of her. He was holding Sophia’s journal.
“Is this yours?”
Riley winced, accepting the book from his hand. “I’m so sorry—yeah…well, it’s my sister’s. Thanks.”
He nodded, running a hand through his dark hair and glancing at Sophie. “That was a far throw, I must say.”
Riley turned red, but Sophie actually smiled. “Thanks!”
“It won’t happen again, right?” Riley gave her sister a warning look as she handed her book back.
“No, I suppose,” Sophie sighed, rolling her eyes as she took her book.
She tucked it into her bag and turned to the guy. “I’m Sophie, and that’s Riley. What’s your name?”
“My name is Coren,” he smiled back, stealing a glance at Riley as if to ask for permission to talk to her sister.
Riley hesitated, wanting to remind Sophie not to talk to strangers, but she thought better of it and kept her mouth shut, giving a shrug in reply to Coren’s questioning gaze. What harm could it do? They were all on the same journey, ‘in this together’, as they always say.
“Did you come from Spades, too?” Sophie asked.
Riley frowned. “Sophie, it’s Spadens. You can’t just say ‘spades’.”
Sophie stuck her tongue out, and Coren struggled to stifle a laugh.
“No—I was evacuated from the Isles…but it’s close enough to Spades, right?”
Sophie grinned, and Riley narrowed her eyes at Coren despite the slight smile that tugged at the corners of her lips.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever,” Riley shook her head, turning back to the window once more.
She watched as the rolling plains sped by, barely listening as Coren and Sophie conversed. Sophie had even scooted over and invited Coren to sit down, but Riley didn’t say anything. She only sat and looked up at the moon shining in the darkened sky, her mind going back to the home they were leaving behind…to her parents they were leaving behind.
Things had gotten too dangerous in Spadens, and her parents had sent her and Sophie away to keep safe from the war that was destroying their home. Riley was anxious about her parents and couldn’t stop thinking about them, but she tried to reassure herself that they would be okay.
“Riley, smile—you look too gloomy,” Sophie said, nudging Coren. “She’s been looking mournful all day.”
“Let me control my own mood—I can be gloomy or happy if I want to,” Riley muttered, eyes still on the moon.
“You have been looking quite down,” Coren agreed, and Riley looked at him. “Why don’t you lighten up a little? It isn’t the end of the world.”
He was smiling slightly, but there was an edge of sympathetic understanding in his expression. Riley shrugged, colouring.
“I- I guess…I just—I don’t know.”
“Please let go, now, of whatever’s bothering you; for the moment we can only watch how things progress and help each other out, right?”
Sophie smiled. “Right!”
Riley slowly nodded. “…Right.”
“Coren, are you coming back?” The three of them glanced back to see a dark-haired girl who was sitting next to the seat Coren had left.
“Yeah, sure—in a couple years,” he smirked, before standing up and turning to his new friends. “Sorry, my sister wants me to come back, so I suppose I have to go…Riley and Sophie, right?”
“Yep,” Sophie replied. “ Riley and Sophie Wickham. I do hope we will meet again, soon.”
Riley rolled her eyes. “Uh huh…thanks for keeping her quiet, by the way. It was nice to meet you.”
Sophie frowned, and Coren’s smile broadened. “Of course; I could tell she was being quite a handful.”
“Hey!” Sophie scolded, and Coren laughed.
“I’m only playing with you!” He reasoned, nudging her playfully before returning his attention to Riley. “It was nice to meet you too, Riley Wickham…it’s Coren Vince if you ever need to find me. Cheerio, and keep hold of that book, Sophie.”
Sophie giggled and waved as Coren left, and Riley found herself smiling. Sophie caught her look and smirked.
“If you start singing that song, I’ll leave you on the train when we stop,” Riley threatened, giving her sister a glare. “I hardly know him, you know.”

883 words
here's a real nonsensical level
i believe cwktao was the one who first taught me how to do this sort of thing
(in essence, i changed the maximum width of the level - strange things happen because of that)
12346477Z2Z21Z76Z1Z1Z1Z7Z1Z1Z1Z7Z1Z1Z1Z79Z1Z2Z1Z1Z5Z79Z2Z2Z6Z9Z1Z25Z5Z63Z1ZZ1Z49ZZZZ0Z0

edit: meant to post it on main forum oops
(pretty sure everyone here knows what changing level width does)

adding the credits, the description is nearly full, meaning there might not be space for the rules etc. when those are added. should I put the manager intros into a project and link the project in the desc and that way they can be full length rather than just name and pronouns?
that sounds good! if we want, a section of the manager intro can be “your contribution,” that way we can also shorten the credits wif we need to?
so like, for MY intro, it'd be like “sawyer // ze/ae/they/he // adhd // I help manage comments and keep things organized!” or something idk
