Post about Wii Modding and Homebrewing here
If you need any help understanding Wii modding, go to https://wiibrew.org/

What is Wii Modding and Homebrewing?
Homebrew refers to the ability to run software on the Wii that is not licensed or sanctioned by Nintendo. This includes homemade games, game engines that can run old PC games, and homebrew applications that do things like play DVDs through your Wii or use the balance board as a scale.

You can do a lot of great stuff using homebrew
(Keep in mind doing this voids your Wii's warranty)

BE CAREFUL WHEN USING HOMEBREW APPLICATIONS
If you make a homebrew application or use a homebrew application install BootMii boot2 or Priiloader on your wii install a homebrew program!!

For instructions of installing homebrew, go here:
https://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_setup

What you can do here:
Talk about homebrew programs others created
Talk about homebrew programs you created
Talk about Wii modding in general,
or other Wii modding/homebrew-related stuff!

Anyways, have fun!

Oh, and if you're wondering about where to post download links, I recommend github.com

If you want to install a homebrew application, make sure you have an SD Card

The internet channel has not been updated since 2009, so, uh, yeah, probably not. I can test it if you wish!
I have already homebrewed my wii, if you need any help with anything, feel free to ask!
I play the Wii, but only sometimes now. Mine is not modded.

I don't know, there is a Scratch WAD for the Wii, but I believe it just crashes.

Where's that?
Isn’t homebrew illegal?

It will void your warranty (which I think all have expired at this point), but it won't land you in jail.

You own the Wii, you have all rights to modify it in whichever way shape or form

The only thing that is illegal is if you do illegal stuff with homebrew, but not the homebrew channel itself.

Only if you do illegal things, like install copyrighted software. Otherwise, no, like zedthehedgehog said.

musicROCKS013 wrote:

As @zedthehedgehog said, homebrewing itself is not illegal. Nintendo is very strict with homebrew. On the Wii, your warranty is void (If you brick it, they won't repair it), and on newer consoles, you can actually get banned from using online features, unfortunately. They also have tried quite a few times to remove homebrew (Such as the Bannerbomb patch and Twilight Hack patch).

Though homebrew is not illegal, piracy IS ALWAYS ILLEGAL.
Piracy includes watching downloaded copyrighted movies on a Wii and downloading copyrighted video games and emulating them (i.e played SMB on Fceugx). Making a copy of your disc game (i.e by using CleanRip or USB Loader GX) is not illegal.

I would not worry about your warranty being void. I don't think the warranties are even active anymore. Besides, as long as you install BootMii as Boot2 or Prilloader and a NAND backup. you're pretty well safe from bricks. Just don't download ROMs from the internet. Make archive copies of games you own. You can also download unlicensed ROMs and Homebrew Games, legally. There are a few good ones.

Have fun homebrewing your Wii!

Yeah. For some reason when you have a classic controller plugged into the remote and you open a USB loader, it does this. The first time this happened I got so worried that I had bricked my wii. nah.
Is there a SpongeBob theme for the Wii?

I think I saw one somewhere online a while back.

It's easy to get the n64 games back thanks to NUS downloader and wad installers on homebrew.

I'm not trying to offend you, zedthehedgehog, but I really like the words “ew a crash”. They are very funny.

As zedthehedgehog said, it voids your warranty, but you won't get thrown in jail for it.
But you CAN get thrown in jail for piracy (basically downloading music or games or shows for free).

Meh. I get it. These were on the Wii when I got them. Though it is illegal, it's really the only way to preserve their history. I mean, they can;t be downloaded anymore anyway, and as much as I don't endorse piracy, it really is the only way to do that.

While I do agree with efforts to archive software, I don't agree with pirating games with the sole intention (or even intention in general) of playing them. Pirating is illegal.

Haha love that! I don't have dolphin, I just use the wii
Also, @zedthehedgehog I'm not sure what an NUS downloader is, could you explain?
Oh guys I found some really obscure Wii channels only released in Japan: Wii Fit Body Check Channel and Grill off with retro hand (This one was also released in NA but in both regions was only a Club Nintendo Exclusive.)
I linked the WAD files here for anyone who wants to use them (MAKE SURE TO REGION FREE YOUR WII WITH PRILLOADER FIRST OR YOUR WII MAY BE SUBJECT TO VERY UNWANTED CIRCUMSTANCES)

Wii Fit Body Check Channel:

Wii de ultra hand:

If anyone with Wii Fit can try out the body check channel, and link some photos here, I would really appreciate it! It seems that when you launch the app, it needs you to insert the disc (I think anyway, I can't read Japanese). I don't have wii fit, so I can't use it.

Thanks, and enjoy!

I have Wii Fit Plus, but according to this Dolphin Wiki page, it appears that it was used along with a DS to give data to health professionals. However, this is probably obsolete, and this article makes me wonder if it is kind of pointless.

I watched the trailer for Grill-Off with Ultra Hand, and it looks kind of boring. It's all about grabbing meat with the Ultra Hand.

Also, please refrain from directly linking to pirated content.
Wii Fit Body Check Channel may have got your information from various locations and uploaded it to a website according to this layout:
https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/vEenCP76Zhm_hM10W3doKA–~B/Zmk9ZmlsbDtoPTI5MTt3PTY3NTthcHBpZD15dGFjaHlvbg-
It also seemed to have collected information from the DS through the Personal Trainer: Walking game that I found used a pedometer accessory, also included in the layout.

The data uploaded to the web also contained BMI info from Wii fit. Health Professionals would review the information and send back suggestions and comments to the Wii (Judging by the layout it was in the form of a Wii Message Board letter).

It was developed by NEC, Hitachi, and Panasonic Medical Solutions (According to this website)

I'm really not sure about the rest of this. I'm still unsure about the “Insert the SD Card” screen shown in LunaValoaa's YT video. If any of you can or know someone who can translate Japanese, that would really help! I'll upload pictures of the Wii Fit Body Check Channel here so we can figure it out, but otherwise, I'm not sure what else to do. WiiLink24 has halted the revival progress of this channel, so it's kinda up to us to figure it out.

And yes, Wii de ultra hand looks quite boring, though I cannot get it to run on my Wii, so I can't really play it.
I was able to translate the layout using an image translator service. It's not perfect, but it's there:

I also was able to find some info on the Japanese Wii Fit website about the channel, and translated that as well:
This was the text.

Support health care with the Wii Fit channel!
You can check it.
Graphs and calendars of treg achievements
Register data for up to 8 people and graph changes for several years of other members with each other
You can check.
There is a Wii Fit channel in the Wii menu, so you don't need a Wii disc
You can check the achievement level of the recorded members and enjoy “body measurement”.

I assume this was more like:

Support health care with the Wii Fit channel! (This was where the companies may have used the data collected by you, according to this website)
You can check it.
Graphs and calendars of treg achievements (??)
Register data for up to 8 people and graph changes for several years of other members with each other
You can check.
There is a Wii Fit channel in the Wii menu, so you don't need a Wii disc. (Aha there's mention of the channel)
You can check the achievement level of the recorded members and enjoy “body measurement”.
Ah. I found some more info about that text, and it's just the wii fit plus game. Darn.

Which channel? This statement is referring to the Wii Fit Channel, not the Wii Fit Body Check Channel. The two are completely unrelated.

Oops. It looked like the check channel from the picture, but I did more research and that's just Wii Fit. I don't actually have Wii fit. I used to but I don't have it anymore. Therefore, I kinda forgot what it looked like.

I'm still trying to get into the channel, but the problem is when you boot it up, It shows something in Japanese that I used Yandex to translate. Apparently I need save data from the game. I tried using a NSTC version of the game on USB Loader GX, and it created save data, but that did not work. I'm thinking I might need the Japanese version of the game. It would make sense, I guess.

Yeah, this translates to…
There is no personal data for Wii fit.
Re-Boot from the Wii disc
Please create your personal data.
Return to the Wii menu.

I'm a little stuck. I may have to buy back the Wii balance board and find the Japanese version of Wii fit. I'm annoyed that I can't get further into this channel. Right now, I know as much as anybody about this.
