We're super excited for April this year!
We loved last year's Autism Awareness / Acceptance Month studio so we decided to celebrate again this year.

✓ Provides an interesting prompt that inspires Scratchers to be creative and make projects (includes some project ideas + a list of autism-month-themed prompts in the “Ways to take part” section, and also a focused theme of “autism and identity”)
✓ Is focused on a specific project type or topic (autism awareness and acceptance! there are some other studios this year centered around neurodiversity acceptance in general, which may seem more inclusive, but autism awareness/acceptance month in particular is important too as its own celebration)
✓ Has at least one active manager, but not tons of managers (several active managers, who helped plan the studio)
✓ Has fewer than 100 projects (3 projects and counting)
✓ Has at least 2 projects that serve as good examples of what can go in the studio (all projects are good examples)
✓ Invites anyone to ask for their project to be added by a curator. (included in the “Adding projects” section)

Daily March 29:

Mia reaches over and squeezes my hand. I squeeze it back, but my hands are still shaking.
“The tension is killing me!” She whispers, which prompts a laugh from me… or maybe it’s just the nerves.
“I’m the one finding out my power, not you,” I whisper back. We didn’t even know I was a power before today. It’s terrible that she’s not too, but she was never sad or angry at all.
“I know, but still!”
“…why are we whispering anyways?”
“It seemed like the right thing to do.”
I just nod. She opens her mouth to say something, but the door opens. There it is. The amulet that’s going to give me my power.
“Do I just… take it?” I ask. She laughs.
“Of course, you doofus! Put it on!”
Even in the limited time since we found out, we’ve talked so much about what it might be. Time to find out I guess. I can feel the anticipation everywhere, my hands shaking as I lift it up and put it over my head and– nothing. I feel normal - better than a moment ago, actually. I turn to Mia.
“Nothing hap-” I stop. Her face has gone pale and she’s slumped against the wall. “What’s wrong?” I ask. She breathes shakily.
“I don’t… know….” she says. I turn to ask Liann- she’s the adult here. But she’s wobbling on her feet, and I just catch her as she falls. As soon as she touches me, she slumps completely, eyes closed.
“Help!” I yell. I don’t understand- what’s happening- why- Two more people run in.
“What happened?” The first asks, while the other runs over to check on me. As soon as she touches my arm, she slumps against me, and I can barely hold her up. The man stares at me. Takes a step forward. Puts a hand to his chest. Backs up, out of the room.
“How… what are you doing?” He asks.
“What?”
“I’d think there’s something in the air… but you’re fine… so it must be you…” then his eyes land on my chest. My amulet. Is it- no- it can’t be-
I take it off with shaky hands. Immediately, I feel exhausted. Both the unconscious women groan and sit up. I turn to see Mia blink groggily.
“W-whatishap-” she asks, but I cut her off with a tight hug. The man’s words chill me.
“Back up.” I do, confused. But I think I know why.
“It’s… it’s the amulet isn’t it?” I say. I feel sick. “I did that.”
“What happened?” Mia demands, shooting to her feet. She wobbles and I catch her.
“That-” I say miserably. “My amulet- it- I- I don’t know why but you, and them- and-” I’m crying now and I don’t know why. Because I can’t use my amulet? Because they got hurt? Because I hurt them? Or because I felt so good while it was happening?

Could I have some suggestions for this starter demo I whipped up? I don't wanna do anything of a platformer. Thanks

So hello my name is Plat (short for my username) there’s a lot of things in the Marvel Scratch Multiverse. Mainly those of comics and books, here’s some of the universes (those by individual creators) to read.

There’s the MSCU by @-MarvelComics- he did leave but his universe was the first and one of the best!
The PMU is another good one by @PMU_Official

White up a pawn, that is at least what Stockfish shows. That static board is evaluated with 155 by GoK (which seems OK), on the path it chooses it gets to 292 at depth 4, it seems to see something there that won't materialize later.

Update: OK one reason (but not the only one) is over-rating king ring attacks (esp. several for on square), which are crazy in that scenario. The other reason is likely that it things the capture sequence is still available.

Hey Lark! So excited to critique your piece- one of the first critiques I ever did was for you last session (or maybe two sessions ago?) and I remember what a fantastic writer you are <33

It should’ve been a pretty good day, and overall, I suppose it was. }

I love this opening. It instantly makes the reader wonder what could have gone so wrong. Excellent start ^^

Our conversations used to be simple and quiet, sharing only the simplest pieces of our stories. As the leaves turned golden and we had more time together, we started to open up a little.}

I love the detail of the seasons changing! <3

I think that the word ‘together’ feels a little unnecessary in this sentence, and it interrupts the flow just a little bit. That's such a small thing, I know, so you can feel free to ignore this if you think it works better.

Two things right here – The first is just a small grammar thing. Because the rest of the piece is in past tense, I think the correct version of it would be ‘felt’ rather than ‘feel’. Not totally sure, but I think that's right. The second thing is that I think removing the word ‘almost’ helps make it feel more sure, and shows the narrator's confidence in their friend and in their friendship.

This feels repetitive of the beginning of the piece. I think it may be good to see if you can reword it, but if you intended the repition to be there, then definitely keep it. I definitely appreciate how great a good powerful repition of a great line can be ;D

Ahh, I love this revelation. I love that you don't outright say what her struggle is, because it just makes the whole piece more… I can't really put it into words! It's just a very touching moment when you realize why she's crying and it keeps the reader invested in the story and characters <3

This whole paragraph is very touching <33 It has such strong feelings of hopelessness (in how she can't do anything) but it also has the themes of love and friendship in it- it's so sweet <33

I love this line. It's so strong and it puts something so human and beautiful into words. And I think it's also so great that it adds emphasis on the importance of words and writing in order to provide comfort and love which is so important <3

I'm a little confused about what you're trying to say here. Did she actually create the envelope or did she just grab one? I don't know- I feel like this part could just use some more imagery.

I don't understand. Tonight I went on Scratch to check my notifications. I then saw a message that said one of my animations from May 14, 2023 got taken down. It's midnight on March 30, 2024 as I'm typing this right now. You're telling me that it got taken down after over 10 MONTHS?!?! The sound I used was used by other Scratchers, and they didn't get their projects taken down from it, I censored out all of the swear words, I didn't show a fight, and there's literally nothing wrong with it. I have other projects that I feel like would get taken down instead, but they are completely fine to stay up on Scratch, and not this one? What common sense is that? I'm really not trying to be rude, I'm just extremely frustrated. My streak of at least 1 project everyday has been going on for 336 days. Since April 29, 2023. That streak has been lowered to 321 days. Ik that isn't all that much of a difference, but it is so god dang annoying to me that the project got removed for what I expect to be no reason, after 10 months of being up. I have republished it, hoping it was just a mistake. If it wasn't though, I would love to know why it got taken down

i would probably say we should start the storyline as like ‘you’re waiting at the trail head for your guides' or something like that, me and you come up, we start leading them on the trail, maybe talk about like ‘the history of the trail’ or something, talk about how lots of important things (fables) have happened in these woods/trail, touch on a few animals or the idea of animals? that's what i was thinking, you can add whatever you'd like :>

But what am I really? A thought? Something that has just been created so that people can look at me- look at that which I am made of- and gain entertainment from my suffering and confusion?
What am I burdened with, you ask?
I am burdened with whatever my creator says I am.
Yes, I know. I'm a character. I'm just a thing. I'm the words that come from a young writer's fingers and nothing more. Cursed to suffer endlessly for entertainment.
I am cursed to have knowledge. The knowledge of the truth of my existence.
I'm not blind or deaf or missing any limbs, at least, you may say.
Or maybe I am. I'm at the mercy of my creator's imagination.
What am I? A string of words, a thought, something to be pushed and prodded and made to do as I'm said to do.
I am only burdened with this gift because my creator says I am. I'm only suffering from it because she says so.
I only exist because she thinks I should.
Perhaps tomorrow I won't exist at all. The words could be gone. I am fragile, just something to be made to suffer through life and love and loss or whatever the creator says I am fit to take on. Perhaps I will enter a dystopia. Perhaps I'll be put in danger. Perhaps I'll be k!lled.
But I know one thing. I will have troubles in the course of my existence.
For if not, why should I exist?

Kendall opened her eyes. The golden morning light drifted through the blinds of her window, illuminating the tiny specks of dust floating in the air. She quickly shut them again, hoping to fall asleep and slip into the marvelous world of her dreams.
It didn't work. Kendall opened them.
She sighed. The bed was so warm, so soft and comfortable and cozy. She wished dearly that she didn't have to go to school. That she could stay in bed and dream all day.
The birds chirped, flitting about the pear tree outside as they sang the sweet song of dawn. Kendall sat up and peeked through the blinds, holding two apart with her fingers as she gazed outside. It was a nice day: barely any breeze, a bright sun, and a few white clouds that looked like whipped cream sitting near the horizon. Kendall looked back at the birds. She wanted to be like them; to be able to lift her arms–wings, they'd be–and fly. To see a sparkling, perfect pear far above her head, and simply rise off the ground and get it.
A bunny hopped across the grass below the pear tree. Kendall wrinkled her nose. They were cute, but she liked the birds much better. They hung around the pear tree, her favorite fruit, and had beautiful, colorful feathers, and most importantly: they could fly.
Bunnies could not fly. They did not eat the pears, because the pears were too high. They did not have beautiful, colorful feathers, only brown and gray and white fur. And they could only hop to get around.
Kendall did not want to be a bunny.
A caterpillar inched across the windowsill on the outside. Kendall looked at it very closely, her eyes crossing slightly. She supposed being a caterpillar wouldn't be too bad. They were colorful, after all, and could climb up the tree to eat pears. But they still couldn't fly, so it wasn't as good as a bird.
She flipped the robin's egg blue comforter back towards the foot of the bed and slid out. Then she pulled off her pajamas and tugged on a pair of dark green leggings and a stripey crew neck sweatshirt. Then Kendall tied her white sneakers and went into the kitchen for breakfast.
There, Mum was scrambling eggs. Kendall watched, dully interested, as her mother expertly cracked, whipped, and poured the tangerine colored eggs in the pan. The yolks were very orange, not yellow like ones from the store. That was because Kendall and Mum had chickens, five of them: Jen, Jean, Jane, June, and Lila.
Kendall didn't like the chickens. She liked eating scrambled eggs, though, so she thought it was alright to keep them. She definitely did not want to be a chicken. They were hardly birds. All they do is lay eggs and flap their feathers, and they can't fly. Kendall would much rather be a cardinal, or a wren, or a finch. A hummingbird would be brilliant, though she supposed they got quite tired. They flap their wings eighty times per second.
She ate her eggs, brushed her teeth, and then went outside to play in the tree. Last summer Kendall had attached a rope to one of the branches, and tied the other end around a tire to make a swing. Now she sat on top of it, positioning herself so that the rope looped tightly around the strong rubber was in between her legs. Then she put her hand out, arm straight, and pushed against the tree so that she began to swing parallel to the trunk. She swung higher, and higher, soaring above the grass. It was like being a cardinal or a wren or a finch, almost. She rose up, swooped down, then rose up again. This process was repeated over and over, until she was higher than the birds perched on their branches and nibbling the pears. Kendall then put her legs on the bottom of the tire, in the hole, and stood up. She stepped up, so she was standing on top of the tire as it swayed and twirled. Finally, Kendall gathered all of her courage and leapt off the tire. It continued to swing. She floated through the air. She was flying. Time was slowed and Kendall was suspended there, a few inches from the pears, many feet above the ground. She reached out for a pear. Then everything sped up again and she crashed to the ground, landing with a graceful roll in the soft grass. She looked up. The grass was awfully tall, stretching miles above her head. A glint of light green–a pear–was hardly visible through the forest of grass. Kendall reached up for it, and realized she didn't have arms. Where did they go? Kendall looked down. She didn't have arms. She wasn't wearing her stripey sweatshirt and dark green leggings anymore, either. Or her white shoes. Instead, she saw a colorful body with lots of little black legs. Kendall was a caterpillar.

hi poppy! I’m going to submit my comp entry soon, but I asked my dad for critique and he said it might be better if the ending is more subtle, so I wrote a different version. if you don’t mind, could you tell me which one you think is better?

1: half a century later, the holiday house property passed onto another great, wild, blonde musician: taylor alison swift.
taylor swift has owned holiday house since 2013, and has caused her fair share of mischief while owning it: namely, a series of summer parties she dubbed “taymerica”, in which she invited her very own pack of friends over for a few nights of fireworks, waterslides, and boat rides.

in 2020, while quarantined, taylor wrote and recorded a new album named folklore. in this album, she included a song called the last great american dynasty, where she tells the story of her high-society muse and the house that connects them. this, of course, was the inspiration for the story you’re reading now. and if i may, i’ll add my own take on these two women’s incredible stories: as laura ingalls wilder always used to say, well-behaved women seldom make history.

2: half a century later, the holiday house property passed onto another great, wild, blonde musician, but the echoes of the legendary rebekah harkness fill the halls of holiday house, even now. listen closely, and you might hear her lovely voice in the creaking of the walls and the subtle music drifting through the air. listen closely, and she will tell you her story. listen closely, and she might even call it… folklore.

Yeah, you might need a notice on the description of the project saying to click to click the flag twice. It's a common thing especially on animation projects. so once we have a storyline/good desc idea, you could just update it now if you want and then we could start sending out the invites to the cabin! we should probably come out with like a short intro for the desc as well.

You can delete all of the blocks of an extension to do this, though if you wanted to remove an extension that you already have blocks of, you have to get rid of all blocks. This actually was a feature in Scratch 2.0, but it got removed

Yeah, you might need a notice on the description of the project saying to click to click the flag twice. It's a common thing especially on animation projects. I think the problem is that the timer starts when the site is loaded, so when you start the project, the timer has already gone past some frames.

You can also stack it to join more than two things:

You can use it to output variables in a sentence:

The “see through” variable has to either be for this sprite only, or make sure only the main sprite changes the variable.

I added it, but it didn't seem to work. It works when I play the project from the “see what's inside” page, but when I play it on the normal project page it still skips over the first three costumes.

You’re right. If you can’t see em on home, that means it isn’t featured. No one has proposed your project to home, or the ST didn’t put it on featured. And yes, it needs to be popular on some certain topic.

And, isn't there some random website doing something for animal abuse? Maybe you'd find something there. I just don't think removing it from Scratch would have any effect on it, if that's what you're going for. What if somebody looks up why fishbowls where removed from Scratch? And they have a fishbowl. They would probably be really sad and “want to set the fish free”.

If that fish is still in that bowl, please take it out

Besides, the fact that it's promoting the idea that fishbowls are okay isn't the only issue

If ST added a sprite that was of a dog being kicked, people would get mad. Basically everyone knows you shouldn't kick a dog. ST should remove it, because the dog is being abused, and it's showing abuse. It probably wouldn't promote anyone to go kick their dog (It might, but very few)
It shouldn't be showing something that makes an animal suffer

And for that last point, hardly anyone will notice the missing sprite

People like that shouldn't own a fish anyway

The fishbowl sprite looks like an emoji tbh. WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO PUT THE FISH!!!?!?!?! IN THE SINK!!?!?! JUST A BOWL!?!?!?!?!

I do not like the idea, I do not, not support the idea. I see why this should happen, kinda, but still. Semi-support.

1. Put it in a danm tank. That's where it belongs if you're keeping it as a pet. A pond will also be suitable if it has the right conditions.

2. Everyone makes pet mistakes. And they should've done more research before getting a pet that they didn't know enough about. If they feel bad, that's their fault. And it is their fault that the fish lived a bad life. You can't accidentally abuse something with good intentions and be morally just. Besides, hardly anyone will notice it's absence anyway

3. Fishbowls are bad. Period. I don't see why ST can't just remove the fishbowl sprite. I don't see why we need both. One is bad. That's that.

I'm not sure when I'll have it done, I'll try to finish it tonight just because my hours are kinda iffy, and I don't want to have it put off or make somebody else have to do it. It actually shouldn't be too difficult.
I've never made a slider myself so that'll be new but I think I have a method.

EDIT: ALso just confirming that I saw the part about no transition slider.

I've been having these moments where I realize how to do certain coding things on Scratch recently during my time off the website. One of them was how to make a sliding menu, and basically my thinking was I have a start point and an end point for the slider. Then, I calculate how much percentage the slider has gone. So if it's 31 percent of the way to the end point, the menu should be 31 percent fo the way to its endpoint. When I thought of it I kinda felt dumb for not realizing that before, but nevertheless, I'm going to try and apply that knowledge to making a volume slider.

switch costume to [That%27s+A+Woman%3F v]

Edit: This initializes the project by setting the sprite to the first costume.

The first 3 costumes get completely skipped over in my animation. I'm guessing maybe it has something to do with my timer code (idk if it's actually called that), but idk how to fix it. Could someone help me figure out the problem?

It depends, it could be a fairly inactive studio, or Scratch is sometimes slow when sending out studio activity messages.
