Due to the terrible S3 speed, and a minor code oversight that never caused any problems during TW, WD was actually so slow, that it didn't even finish evaluating the FIRST move of the lowest depth!

This was caused by the enormous amount of extensions, which sometimes caused WD to get to ply-8 (on Scratch 3!). This removed all performance during more tactical lines.

The new version should hopefully fix this, improve the opening book, and tweak some evaluation parameters.

Great to hear! Does this also cover the disappearing pieces? I have activated export and analysis for members, which as far as I understand means you only have to be logged in. I had run too many analysis yesterday and reached my daily quota.

I let White Dove and GoK play one more match on S3, and it was great to watch (91% vs. 97% accuracy)! Nice level for two engines running at 15 and 10 seconds think time: https://lichess.org/study/v3EKTlR2/w693R8Ri . White Dove will certainly move up the ranks quickly to a position where it belongs.

Funny details about lichess analysis, when importing PGN, lichess showed 3 resp. 1 blunders. But when loading the same PGN into the study, those blunders were downgraded to inaccuracies, white the overall accuracy nearly staying the same. Different SF search depth I guess?

There is a property that allows for project creators to hide the code within their projects, while still allowing it to run. This makes the project practically impossible to remix, which goes against the Community Guidelines.

In addition, in order to get any use out of the “shadow” property, project authors must modify their project's file in a way that breaks the Terms of Use. I.E. the user needs to edit the SB3 with a non-Scratch editor.

My first thought is how lovely the title is. It's the first thing that draws the reader in, and it just has such a poetic ring to it and it instantly sets the tone for the piece, even before you read the first few words.

I love the way that this starts. Knock-knock is usually the start of a joke, but in this context it's used in such an unsettling way that's just chilling in the best way possible. It's an incredible start <3

I think that the description here is great, but I have a small nitpick about the word choice (and mind you, nitpicking is what the majority of this critique is because it's already so well-done). I think maybe changing buries to burrows sounds like a more active verb, since normally I think of something (such as a ghost) burrowing into something rather than burying itself into something. However, I think that the idea of burying also hints further at the idea of death and ghosts, so I think it's sort of a choice of what you want this particular part to say ^^

I love this and the mood it gives. It's unsettling and helps add so much to the character of the narrator.

You have such a talent to portray so much emotion and meaning in so few words, and it's such an amazing skill for a writer to possess, and this is especially clear right here ^^

I think that the way that this sentence is written reads in a strange way, just given the pauses and commas. I think maybe splitting it into multiple sentences or even changing the punctuation may help with the rhythm (I am incredibly weird about rhythmic writing, so I am extremely sorry for my nit-picking about pauses and word-length in advance ^^')

saving people doesn't make you a hero, so why do i try? why do i bother to save them if it makes me nothing? i've been searching forever, i've lost count of the years. when will i ever become something more than who i am? they said that anyone could be a hero. if i can't save them, is there anything there? what is my worth? they call me a hero in the newspapers but i don't know who i'd be.

they still haunt my nightmares when i sleep. the people praise my name but no one knows what i really am.

what happens when the dead comes back? in the end, i can't really save anyone and every one of them will be my failure. i wish i could let it go but i'll never be free. sometimes i wonder if i should save them because does it really make a difference anyway? i've never made a real change in the world because i let them die. i couldn't save them

There's probably no way to get that number. You would need tons and tons of data to even estimate, the data of course, is the number of blocks in every project… but since scratch is nearing 1 BILLION projects, you would never cover the entirety of them. Even if you don't, the smaller and smaller number of projects you check, the more inaccurate your estimation gets. So, you would need to check tens of thousands of projects to get a little bit closer to the actual answer.

Weekly 3
word count -

Part 1: Major Plot Points (412 words)

1. The session begins and everyone seems to be happy (exposition)
At the start of the story, the session is just starting. SWC-ers are meeting their leaders and they are learning about their cabin's storyline plot. Everything seems to be going well as tend start getting set up. The Main Cabin is lively and bright with a lot of new additions from previous sessions. Campers also meet Gurtle (the session mascot) and start interacting with him - a lot of games and fun are had as weeklies and dailies start to come in.

2. Campers start noticing that links are being eaten (the blame is put on Gurtle)
As the session continues on, it is noticed that links to certain things are not being “available” on time - in all the descriptions/projects, it states that Gurtle is the one responsible for this disappearance. Campers get somewhat enraged, but have fun with Gurtle, joking around about it. As the session continues, it starts to happen more frequently - something doesn't seem right.

3. Gurtle goes missing, and a new set of events take place during cabin wars.
In the middle of the session, it seems to that Gurtle disappeared. Everyone is unsure as to why or where Gurtle went away. Meanwhile, cabin wars begin and chaos is beginning to go down as Barlog enters the main cabin. New lore regarding Gurtle is released, and everyone is left feeling confused. The hosties secretly consult Detective Alana and ask her to find Gurtle.

4. Detective Alana questions some witnesses to find out who is behind the mystery.
Determined to solve the mystery, Detective Alana begins to investigate the case by searching the tents surrounding the main cabin. As she turns the corner of Thriller's main tent, Alana notices Luna scurrying away. Calling after her frantically, Alana brings her into questioning - Detective Alana believes that Luna is a witness an knows that she is the key to finding where Gurtle went.

5. Smarlls was impersonating Gurtle and eating the links to shift the blame.
As Detective Alana follows leads based off of Luna's account, she ends up at Smarlls' base. There she finds that Smarlls has been impersonating Gurtle this whole session by stealing links. Smarlls felt upset that no one remembered them after a few sessions, and decided that revenge was the way to go. Now aware that there was no escape, Smarlls admitted their crimes and promised to change their ways.

Part 2: Red Herrings + Clues (xxx words)

1. The scenic beginning is a hint to the destruction that is just waiting to follow

2. Links are still disappearing after Gurtle has “disappeared” – In the middle of the story, the reader will notice that links are still being eaten even after the tyrants approach Detective Alana regarding Gurtle’s alleged disappearance. This brings up the question of who is actually eating the links, thus hinting at an imposter possibly impersonating Gurtle.

3. In the witness interview with Detective Alana, Luna states, “I think I'd choose Gurtle. I'm not even sure who Smarlls is!”. This is somewhat foreshadowing Smarlls' motives - it is letting the reader know that most people have forgotten about Smarlls. Because of this, Smarlls wanted to kidnap Gurtle and make him look bad in front of the SWC community (which Smarlls did succeed in doing initially).

Part 3: Interviews (446 words)

Alana: Hi Luna! I'm Alana, a detective who's currently trying to solve a case. It has come to my attention that you were present at the scene where it happened.. do you know why I've called you here today? Apart from that I mean. One might say that every witness holds at least a bit of truth..

Luna: Kind of-

Alana: Ohh.. trying to avoid the question here I see. Don't worry, I have my ways of dealing with these scenarios! Just letting you know that I'm much more nicer when you're on my good side, so if you have any idea of why you're here, then you better tell me!

Luna: Well- you're questioning me, aren't you?

Alana: Ahaha I suppose I'll stop beating around the same bush. I'm probably going to get nothing out of you if we continue like this. Hmm.. time to change up my method. Well that being said, let's start off with a fairly easy question! Who would you rather have as a pet, Gurtle or Smarlls?

Luna: Ah! I would have to say Gurtle. Plus, I'm not sure who Smarlls is!

Alana: AHA! See.. the thing is, I have my suspicions that you're more than just a witness, you know? Although on your file it says that your “innocent” I'd like to believe that there's more to this story… I mean I'm investigating Gurtle's kidnapping - don't you think it's fishy that you'd want him as a pet?

Luna: U-uh I'm not sure what you're talking about! I'm just an innocent witness! I saw where Gurtle was last- I promise you I'm innocent!

Alana: Hmm I'll let that bit go for now- But do spill! Where did you see Gurtle last? Perhaps that could help me figure out who stole him…

Luna: I think I've seen him near The Mill- (your word count) which makes me question your innocence. Maybe you are the one who /really/ stole Gurtle. What do you say to that?

Alana: Oh! Accusing me, the very trustworthy detective now, are you? Well I don't appreciate it when my witnesses begin to lie.. otherwise, what's the point of summoning you here?! I do supposed that there's a chance that Gurtle may have wandered off with either Fern or Flounder, but I find that highly unlikely considering the current circumstances.

Luna: I'm not lying, am I? But anyways, maybe you're right, he did wander off with one of them. I think I saw someone near the mill, though.

Alana: I mean, I can't tell you if you're lying or not. Your job is to remain honest when being questioned - that is your sworn duty as a witness.. Innocent? Guilty? Well, that's for me to decide when I see the rest of this case unfold. I do appreciate your intel, though I can't help but question the sources due to our current situation. With that let me ask you one more thing. Did you have a prior relationship with Gurtle? By this, I mean.. have you ever talked with each other perhaps?

Luna: I promise you; I am honest! Honesty is a valued principle in my life, and I try to go by it at almost all times. But let us talk about Gurtle the turtle now. Yes, I have talked to Gurtle before. We were talking about swc and the campers, and eventually I began to lecture him about eating links and how it may be upsetting to some campers. I think he should go to turtle jail for such a crime. Don't you?

Alana: Hmm.. changing the topic now I see- I mean, it's nice to know that you guys have talked, but it doesn't seem like you have the best relationship with Gurtle. All the more reason to kidnap him, you know…Aside from this, have you ever interacted with Gurtle? I honestly have my doubts at this point.

Luna: You may think what you want! I'm just a witness. But no, not really, it was just that one time. It's not like we're enemies, you know?

Part 4: Mystery Story (xxx words)

Okay, I have to get ready for school and go to bed soon, so I'll write my backstories out in the morning and I'll be going offline soon but:

(note: Lukayxan is just what I type when I mean the three of them)

first of all, something that's really cool is we basically went the same place on one point without even mentioning it – in the story Lukayxan are from, there are kinda 2 cultures with 2 deities, Laoa and Karr, Xan is raised Karrn so he thinks of Karr and Kay and Luca are raised Laoan so they think of Laoa, but they're actually the same– both Laoa and Karr mean ‘Maker,’ so it's just each country's name for the same person, coincidentally probably the same as the Maker your characters have.

I wasn't expecting you to give them amulets but I think it's pretty cool that you made them Descendants - Lukayxan aren't, they're the first people to have their amulets, but they've met descendants before so it works just fine for your chars to be - they just handle it in a different way then the Descendants I've seen before - which is cool, and makes sense because they're two seperate groups of people, so ofc they'd create their own traditions. It all seems to work fine to me tho, and obv this is a very cool culture you're creating!

I think you're characters would definitely be from somewhere else than mine… probably just another area/country/etc. (Just because ofc they have their own traditions and culture) Overall that works fine tho, we just need a reason for them all to be in the same place at the same time.

IRS based off statistics from before this bug became commonly known, as well as how most search engines, presumably Scratch’s search as well, work.

This is fairly common with general SEO as well, that is spqamming a string for search engine preference

Though the main problem isn't search results, it's the explore page. and we have lots of proof the exploiting tags is related to getting on the explore page

WHEN THE SKY WAS BLUE

The sun dipped below the horizon, commanding the stars that fell over me. As chaos threw its cape over my shoulders, the moon was beckoned out in the orange sky.

“Chaim,

How could I ever forget

Letters. I had thousands of them. Each word penned by Chaim, it held fragments of our lives before the war. I reached for one, its edges ink-stained and worn with the emotions of a bygone era. Unfolding the envelope, the words leapt off the page.

“Chaim,” I muttered. “There's a story in all your letters, a life we could have lived. Do you remember the days before the war? If only we had known sooner.”

We all wore our own unique capes; until the Germans stole them. The Nazis ripped them away, leaving us bare and shivering in the camps, stripped not just of freedom, but of hope.

That deafening boom will always stay in my memory; a haunting reminder of the night the Nazis dragged us away. Confining us in a room with thousands, controlling our minds and our every action; robbed all our chances. Giving no chance to say goodbye to the life we’d always known, we bore witness to all our overwhelming emotions. Your face, etched with tears and desperate love, burned into my mind.

In our youth, the world was a canvas and we were the artists. We'd walk hand-in-hand under endless blue skies, the scent of sunflowers trailing in the breeze. But life, a cruel artist, smeared those dreams with its brush.

After they took you away, a punishment for a crime you never committed, the sky lost its colour for me. You were my anchor, Chaim. You stood up for me; and it cost you the world. Your drawings, a glimpse into prison life, it seems dreadful. The chains, pinning you to the wall, always remind me of the pressure existing in this world. The pressure to be someone else entirely.

You always wanted to be a scientist; to study the planet we live on, and all its wonders. Sneaking into the library after closing hours, you were always a bit of a rebel; upholding a passion for learning. To know that you’re trapped in a place you don’t belong in, it pains more than anything.

I pen these worlds, knowing you’ll never read them; attempting to bridge the gap between our past and present. The dreams which we once dared, and the harsh reality we find ourselves entangled in. The stars have witnessed our bond, but also the tyranny of the war that tore us apart.

If I could only return your velvet cape to you, I would. Even if it meant sacrificing the world. The cape, adorned with your quirks and imperfections is the only thing you have. But as the days continue to march forth, unforgiving and unyielding, leave me with the weight of what may occur with the slightest mistake.

“Faye! It’s still a quarter till dusk!” Chaim gazed, wistfully. “Mama may allow us to walk in the field !”. So naive, Chaim was, as if Mama would let us step foot outside. At least, not when the Naziz were supervising every street corner.

Before I could stop Chaim, I heard his voice cut through the walls “Ma! Can me and Faye walk in the field?”. “Absolutely not, young man! Your father is risking our life enough with his trade business; I do not want you to interfere with anyone” Mama scolded, her worry evident.

But it was too late. Mama's voice, laced with fear, confirmed my worst dread. We were trapped. The stark truth settled in my bones, heavy and suffocating. Yet, Chaim’s words never died for me. One day, we would paint our own sky again, a heaven bathed in love that defied even the cruellest hand of fate.

author's note : ahoy there! writing this story was like winning a battle against myself. when i first started, i felt like faye cohen, unable to process my racing thoughts. i hadn't written anything i was proud of since months. i started this with the intention of experimenting with a new genre (historical fiction), but the characters took over me. faye is a character i've been building on in my novel, and it was a brief idea to incorporate her in my experimental draft. the chemistry between chaim (the name <3) and faye was beautiful, and i could not help but revolve this entire story about them instead of the war (as i planned). in the end, i am so glad that i led the story lead the way (one instance where overthinking helped!). this is an excerpt of something i started writing (an edited conclusion though), and it was a rush of thought to enter this in the writing competition this session. a huge thanks to my irl bestie for motivating me to complete this! and also i've always wanted to write about a sibling relationship like this <3

*going to do first person in a diary form just for fun
** And I figure why not incorporate hints of God here because we're Catholic and it adds a sense of mystery to everything
*** well it seems we were going in the same direction so just read through this and tell me your thoughts or to make any tweaks to magical systems cause it's kinda chaotic (and I'm going to shower soon in case I disappear for 2 hrs or smth)

Estella (15 years old, present-day):
Age 12-
Today's a special day. More for my family than me. The amulet of Starling has been passed down through each generation. One for the female, one for the male. Each of the amulets is separate from each other, which means they are not in the same family. Each amulet has a different name depending on the family it's passed down from, but all the amulets are called Laost, for the name symbolizes their special connection to the stars. On the female or male's 12th birthday, their family amulet is passed down to them. The family's oldest ancestor then trains the children for their Quest, only known to the Maker of the Stars, who is not of this land. The Quest could be singular for one person or joined with others. No one ever knows until their day comes by the mark of the–
“Stella!” a voice shouts. My mother. She always expects so much from me. I'm used to it. But it bugs me today. I suppose I'd rather have a sense of independence. I pull on my amber-colored tunic and my brown boots. I check my hair in the steel mirror once more and walk out of the hut.
My family is small. I know this fact. But it seems like there are many more people today. It's dark out because the ceremony is always done at midnight. The time when the power of the stars is the strongest. There is a pathway made of people and my family at the very end in a circle. When I get to them, I stand face to face with Grandfather Neptune. Our Ancient of the family, who will be training me in these next couple years of my life.
The family circle closes.
“Today,” he begins, “marks the start of Estella Solaris' Journey. In the light of this night, I bestow upon her the amulet of Starling. Passed down from generations since the beginning of time, the Maker now grants her the power of many generations of the past and of the future. To guide and to protect. To lead and know.”
He says a prayer, only passed and known to and through Ancients.
He steps closer and brings the amulets to my neck. The dark turquoise jewel reflects my face. Determined. Older.
“Today, you become part of the Starling tribe.” He says to me.
Grandfather then snaps the cord around my neck. I look up to the stars and smile. The stars are shaped like a heart. Like I have a protector within the stars.

Atlas (age 16, present-day):
Age 13 (13 is on purpose instead of 12) -

I hammer down on the Starling metal. There are many types of star-made metals, but Starling I find is the easiest to handle, although my uncle, the greatest of star-smiths, cannot mold it to a shape. Tonight will be a special night, I've been told. It was supposed to happen a year ago. But the amulet didn't accept me. The legend is that it clasps to the next generation on its own. But when Grandfather Aster tried to snap it around my neck, it did not respond. They say it happens every other generation. The amulet believes I am immature. It will be proven wrong this year. As the full moon rises, signaling the near of midnight, I put away the hammer and my weapons and change into my teal-colored tunic and silver boots. I am usually confident, but there's fear in me. And doubt. I keep wondering if the amulet will reject me and has done so because of my father and what he did. The reason he's gone. I try not to think about it because it angers me. How could he leave my mother and me on our own?
I've been through the ritual before. After I walk down the path, the circle forms and Grandfather does the prayer and sayings. He brings the amulet to my neck. I see my reflection in the familiar turquoise gemstone. I shiver at the memory of a year ago, but I push it away. I am strong. I glimpse Grandfather's face. He is a stoic man, but he is my Grandfather. That is why I see the concern beginning to form at the memory of last year. But I have trust in the Maker. When Grandfather snaps the amulet to my neck, I freeze. I hear an unfamiliar click. I breathe out a breath I didn't realize I had held and look to the sky. I see the stars in the shape of a heart. My Maker loves me and protects me and the stars tell me this. A peace I have never felt settles into my soul. Despite my past, there is a future for me.

lol yeah that was mostly me overthinking everything anyways–

Honestly, no one really knows how the amulets stuff works, it's kinda stereotypical in some ways but I like it– basically some stars ‘fall’ and then the laost just… show up wherever they need to be raised, with their amulets. Then they grow up and eventually learn to use their powers, and at some point in their lives they'll have the oppurtunity to protect Laoa (that's their world basically) from some big problem (like a war, or an evil emporer, or idk maybe even a huge natural disaster, something). Also, the amulets can be passed down to a descendant of the Laost.

I'm not sure about other magic but it is there… um… I spend a lot more time thinking about these characters/plot stuff than about the actual magic systems of the world, which I should probably figure out at some point xD

They don't really have to be that connected tho, each of them kinda has their own magic but the characters could find connections when the magic is actually being explained/in action? It seemed like your magic was mainly star related, so maybe that's the tie in? That all the magic kinda comes from the stars, it's just percieved/used differently?

Seems unusual, but that could be a legitimate concern.

im trying to make a fighting game engine, but i'm facing an issue with the hitboxes

normally, hitting an opponent will immediately apply any effects the attack may have, which works fine. however, as long as the opponent is stunned, certain attacks WILL hit them; along with waiting until they're actually allowed to be damaged

i have zero idea why this is happening! i've attempted a few fixes, but none of them worked, so i'm resorting to the forums of shame. if you can help, please do!



to replicate:
attack the opponent with the first ability to get them laying down. then, use the third ability before they can get up
(alternatively, push them away and then use a move quickly enough)
