daily #22 - pathetic fallacy

Caileigh twirled around slowly, eyes twinkling in response to the serene landscape around her.
The sun beamed in golden rays, illuminating the dancing emerald grass and babbling brooks with merriment. Swallows and magpies flitted about the treetops as their shrill little voices composed melodies. With her eyes she followed a swallow’s journey as it dived through the leaves that rustled in the laughing wind, before lighting on a delicate branch and singing to its friends.
As she continued to walk down the path, she trailed her fingers across the bright petals of the daisies that lined the way, and they turned their heads towards her, their lemon faces seeming to smile at her gentleness. The long blades of grass waved as she passed, causing her to smile as she soaked in the beauty of the plains stretching out before her.
The terrain soon sloped into a steep hill, teasing her with a dare, and with a grin she quickened her pace to a full pelt, letting the gravity carry her down. She went so fast it felt like she was flying, and she began to laugh, spreading her arms out and watching as the ground raced by in a blur of sage-green and floral colours. The hill eventually evened out, reverting back into relatively flat plains, and Caileigh slowed to a stop, bending with her hands on her knees as she fought to catch her breath.
Hearing the laugh of a brook, she glanced up, and her eyes met racing azure waters that housed saffron-orange fish. She walked towards it and smiled as she watched the golden fish splashing through the stream, fins wagging cheerfully.
Eventually she retired from watching the nature, laying down in the sun-warmed grass and closing her eyes, an absentminded grin spreading across her face.

Hey there! I stumbled across this thread, and as a SWC camper, I'd love to share my views on this!
First of all, I think this is an excellent idea. SWCers aren't trying to clutter up the forums or ruin them for other users; we're just trying to make the best of what's available to us. Most of our writing is too long to share in projects without inconvenience. SWCers have tried to negate clutter by posting in a megathread, but some people prefer having their own writing threads, perhaps due to the fact that it's easy to lose track of your own writing when it's in a megathread. There are approximately 350 people participating in SWC this session–yep, I did the math! While I can't tell you exactly how many are inactive or have dropped out, that's still hundreds of campers posting in the megathread. And dozens of campers posting outside of it. That's a bit of a problem, huh?
There a couple of solutions to this. First, we restrict private writing threads and enforce a megathread. I believe this has been done in the past, although I'm not 100% certain. However, based on the wording in the Main Cabin when talking about writing threads, it looks like the megathread was once non-optional. While we certainly could go back to doing this, it might stress campers who prefer private writing threads, and discourage them from participating. The second solution is, as you brought up, creating a separate topic for SWC. I agree with the second solution, although I do have some things to say about it. We'll get to those in a moment.
To summarize so far:
1) Regular forums users are frustrated with SWCers cluttering up the forums with their posts
2) SWC is huge, and the things written are frequently too long to fit conveniently in projects
3) The megathread, while used by many, is avoided by some campers for reasons of their own, who prefer creating their own personal threads
Right, got all that? Let's continue, because this is about to get bigger than SWC.
Let's talk about kit applications.
If you don't know what those are, kit applications are often used as a way to write out, well, an application for kitten designs in Scratch Warriors roleplays. The parent(s) review the applications for the kit(s), which generally answer questions about the roleplayers, the kind of personality they'd give the kit, and what they plan on doing with them, and choose winners from them to sign up with the kit(s). These applications are frequently done in the forums, and until recently were done in Things I'm Making and Creating. Several months ago, however, a forum post was written asking them to move to to Collaborations. While that's a bit better, neither is really perfect, since the applications don't really fit in either.
So now we have SWC posts, kit applications…where to put this stuff?
That's where the new topic comes in.
I believe that a new topic should be created for writing. SWC writing, kit applications, writing contest entries…the list is endless. With a new topic created solely for writing, whether it be creative writing, essays, or, yep, applications, forum users will be able to sort those kinds of posts into the category they belong in, instead of taking a wild guess as to where to put them. Things I'm Making and Creating comes pretty close, but it's really meant as a discussion for things happening outside of Scratch, and these posts are happening inside of Scratch. Thus, the conclusion I've arrived at is that we need something similar to TIMaC, but for things inside of Scratch. This will cut down on clutter in other topics, and keep both sides happy.
In summary, SWCers, roleplayers, and other writers need a topic of their own to prevent other forums users from becoming frustrated, and in turn prevent writers from being annoyed by the occasional inconsiderate Scratcher who comments or posts in their space to complain. (And yes, we've had complaints before.) Our goal is to write and connect with other writers, not to bother people! And this is a solution that will allow us to keep our tight-knit communities intact and happy, while also being mindful of other Scratchers, especially forum users.
We're all in this together. And like so many people, we have stories to tell. But we don't want to make people mad when we share our writing, so we're looking for a way to do it without dumping our posts where they don't belong.

I really like your use of italics in this section and to be honest, there’s nothing you really need to improve on. I love the way you have the taunting in the italics and it swaps between her and the taunts!

Yllona shut her eyes tightly, as though it would help to block out the sound of the voices. When would the teacher come, for heaven's sake!? She wasn't a favourite among the staff, quite the opposite, but the start of class would bring some order, at least. Then she would be at peace. Well, not really, better than her situation now, anyway. Not that the others would stop harassing her just because there's a grown up.

I think on this paragraph, instead of having the exclamation mark and the question mark, just have one because even though that adds more emphasis, it would make it look tidier and the punctuation would be correct. This flows very nicely! Maybe add in some adjectives or adverbs to make it a bit more interesting!

After what seemed like an hour, class began. Boring. Life had become monotonous for Yllona. Nobody liked, let alone cared for her. Her classmates didn't, that part was obvious; her teachers didn't, she was invisible for them. She wondered if her parents would if they were there. But no good imagining things, because that was not the case.

“The Great Depression was the longest and deepest downturn in the history of the United States and the modern industrial economy lasted more than a decade, beginning in 1929…”

Again, a bit more description! I really like the speech and how you thread it into the piece. I would suggest changing ‘invisible for them’ to ‘invisible to them’! Other than that it flows really nicely again!

She only caught passages of what the teacher was saying. Not that she didn't want to listen, it was just too difficult to concentrate with all the stupid paper notes her classmates were throwing at her, carrying insults in every form. At first, teachers tried to control the note-throwing, but it was no use, and of course they didn't want to waste that much of their time for Yllona. Nobody cared for her anyway.

After hours of supporting the mockery, Yllona found herself on her way home. As always, she put on her hood and walked quickly with her head down. As she crossed the street, she noticed a dark, hooded figure approaching her. A prank from a classmate, she thought. It wasn't as though she wasn't used to this sort of thing. But nonetheless, she couldn't resist to steal a rapid glance at the person. No way, they were way too tall for her classmates. Curiosity mounted in her and she stopped to have a good look at the strange figure. Suddenly, without warning, the mysterious person grabbed her with a pair of white, bony hands. Yllona almost jumped in fright as those abnormally cold hands, or rather claws, touched her skin.

I really like this part! I think that if you added a bit more about how she’s feeling like ‘daggers pierced her heart’ when people insult her! Other than that, I wouldn’t change anything about this!

“My dear girl… The Hooded Man, for it is I, the Hooded Man, is only here to inform you that you, will reach your end soon… Oh pretty soon indeed, my dear girl!” A raspy voice came out of the hood, for if there was a face, it was hidden by the cloak. A sudden breeze of wind passed, and the hood fell off, suddenly revealing a colourless, sharp angled and rather deformed face. His pale, misty eyes fluttered and met the girl's, and without a sound he slid quietly away to the opposite side of the street, gone from view.

Yllona felt her heart pounding inside her chest as her eyes followed the Hooded Man, was it his name. Reach your end? Does that mean… Death? As she came to the realisation of this, she felt a gigantic throb going through her body, and her legs menaced into turned into rubber, only to find that she was still in the middle of the street. She hurried as fast as she could, and almost ran back to her apartment, knocking into several people one her way. She pulled on the door, forgetting it was locked. And when she finally managed to get inside, she plopped down on the couch, panting heavily. Death? Dying? No way!

This part is really really good! The description is great! Look out for the punctuation at the part where he is saying ‘you, will reach your end’ because the coma doesn’t work. Also, a gigantic throb is a bit confusing. If you put an aching throb or something instead, it might be a bit clearer!

Why was Yllona convinced by a stranger's so-called prediction? She, who normally wouldn't even blink facing an insult from her fellow classmates. She wondered as she laid on the couch, her chest rising and falling quickly. It just sounded so real. Like as though, as though a part of her knew that the Hooded Man wasn't lying.

She closed her eyes trying to shut off the thoughts of that mysterious encounter, only to find blurry pictures of the Hooded Man swarming around her head.

What if, what if the words were true? Really true? What if she only had a few days, a few hours to live? For the first time ever, she was desperately hanging on to her life. Her one and only life. Images of her boring, unmeaningful past formed in her mind, and all of a sudden she was regretting all her wasted life. Why didn't she stand up to the bullies? Why didn't she really try to pay attention in class? Why didn't she consult her teachers and tell them what was happening? Why did she give up hope right at the beginning? She burst out sobbing, tears flowing onto the pillow she was squeezing so hard a few feathers were popping out. She pictured, for the first time, what her life might have been if she had known to stand up for herself. If she had just known to do that…

Amazing! It flows beautifully and I wouldn't change anything!

The principal entered the meeting room, where quite a few teachers were already sitting down. All eyes fixed the newcomer, who said, “Shall we begin? We have no time to loose.” The room became deafly quiet as the principal drew a chair and sat down in the middle.
“As we all know, we are here to discuss the matter of Yllona Wagner.”

An hour passed.

The principal arose from his chair, and before turning to leave, said, “So it is agreed. All members of the staff are to help and support her, and those students who continue to harass her will be punished severely.” Pause. “It is a very serious matter, harassment. It can lead to extreme consequences if not treated on time.”

As the first shock gradually came off, Yllona realised the mysterious figure was probably just a farce. After all, who could predict the future? As she tossed and turned in bed, she rethought the matter of death. It didn't seem that scary anymore. She didn't really have anything to loose anymore. Her parents were long gone, and nobody cared for her. She was as good dead as alive. I might even be better dead. Nobody would bully me then. She said out loud to herself.


A circle of doctors standing around a hospital bed, talking gravely with a grey-haired man in a suit.
“Is there still… any hope?”, the man asked.
“Yes. There is always hope. But the real question, is if the patient wants to live or not.” A doctor answered.
Silence.
“So you mean the choice is not in our hands, but in the hers.” The principal said, jerking his head towards Yllona's lifeless form.
“Precisely.”

‘Deafly quiet’ doesn’t really make sense but I assume this is just a typo and you meant deadly instead. You write ‘loose’ but it is ‘lose’ that I think you’re trying to say, because loose and lose have completely different meanings. I love the way you end it with the hospital scene, and I get a chill at the last word!

In a lot of games I need triangles, because they are known as the strongest shape and others. We need a triangle tool so we can make triangle.

You would have to post atleast 2 projects to become a scratcher. As to why you are unable to post any projects, could you perhaps provide more information? (Have you tried on a different browser or different device? Did you use a permanent email adress? What exactly was the problem, could you see the “share project” button, and if so, what happened when you pressed it?)

So i started using scratch last year for school. I didn’t know how to confirm my email at the time, so I couldn’t post. I eventually figured it out and my email was confirmed. I tried sharing a project but it didn’t work. I made multiple new accounts including this one. I even made a new email. Same problem every time. It has the option to share when i edit a project, but wont let me post! I was still a “new scratcher” at the time and figured maybe that was the reason. I looked it up and it seemed like even new scratchers could post. Im also confused bc on my oldest acc, which i made over a year ago, is still a new scratcher, and I didn’t have the invite to be a “scratcher”. Does anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Might be off topic but why, do projects unrelated to the tag, go up on that tags trending? there are so many fame hungry people, literally abusing tags with unrelated tags, like #music, those projects have music but they aren't the main part, there are so many projects that have tags like #all #trending #art #music #animation but some of them aren't even related with the tag and they still go up… scratch is almost just becoming a kid social media platform now..

So, why isn't Hazbin hotel and helluva boss banned from scratch? The guidelines stated that anything inappropriate is not allowed, so why are people
roleplaying about it if Hazbin hotel and helluva boss are the motherload of inappropriateness. There is even a studio ACTIVELY trying to start a “revolution” and want hazbin hotel to be allowed. I feel like younger audiences would be exposed to things of the such, and even Vivziepop intended the two shows to be for older viewers.

My only question is, is this actually moving the images off screen? If so will that be slow on a lower end computer because it has to compute more? Is there a way to make it hide once it is fully offscreen and would that help with lag?

The games seems relatively violent, so I would assume that whatever you've created has broken one of the many rules against violence. Heres a list of rules that people commonly forget that might be the cause of the takedown:
Realistic guns
Blood (caused in violent ways)
Non-educational references to certain historical figures/parties (such as that one certain party which ruled Germany during WWII)

╭ so it was almost time, hm?
the day where orphicpaw would be assessed to see if she could be a proper warrior. she was fairly certain she would make it, mothdance was impressed with her skills so far. orphicpaw's glittering green eyes flicked around the pathway she was on, glancing at the trees towering high above her. her fluffy, constellation-dappled tail hovered just above the ground as she crept closer to the riverbed. a few splashes of water hit the sand, scattering small pebbles onto the she-cat's dainty cloud-patterned paws. she fixated her attention on a small shadow moving a few tail-lengths ahead of her as the sunlight reflected its lovely rays onto the water. orphicpaw extended her paw quickly, unsheathing her claws and striking the fish, hard, against the back of its head.

dragging the flopping fish out of the water caused cool, tiny waves to splash against the she-cat's delicate paws, causing her to step back quite a bit. the fish, which orphicpaw realized was a trout, flopped around aimlessly, its mouth gaping as it searched for its water source. the elegant feline placed a gentle paw on its struggling tail, watching and waiting for it to finally lose its life.

thankfully, it didn't take long. orphicpaw had always disliked watching a piece of prey struggle in its final moments, so she usually attempted to make the trout's life end quickly. she huffed, bending down to touch her nose to the fish's wet scales as she whispered the customary prayer to starclan in her mind.
