Do you like reading and writing stories? Then check out my project for a writing contest!

Hi! I made a writing contest because I love reading and writing stories! Check out some of them one my profile! Anyway, I released it today though I was planning on for a long time. It is in need of PGS and Contestants so I would be very grateful if you could check it out! https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/991797021

Remember, this is a contest so pls don’t cheat and follow all the rules I have written in the description! This is my first ever contest and I would be very happy if it could go successfully. I’m not forcing you to join or anything though.

Pls don’t message advertisements, hate, f4f, for, or spam. Also pls don’t just message I’m not participating rudely and go.

Hey! I've come up with a weekly about characters, not sure about it thoughh~

You can complete this weekly in any order, and if you're not comfortable doing any part of it, you can skip that part of it.

Part 1 - Writing
Post a link to a reference, or a description of one of your original characters - include their apperance, pronouns/gender, personality, age, and information about the world they live in (fantasy? sci-fi? modern-day? mystery?). Then find someone else's! Write a short scene (under 500 words) involving their character and the original character you posted interacting! It could be a first meeting, or maybe they're established friends? Are they enemies, or are they friends? It's up to you to decide!

Part 2 - Art
Find someone else's character, different to the one you chose before. Using their description, create a drawing of that character - it could be a simple headshot, bust, or a fullbody! It could even be a view from the back - it's up to you to decide!

Part 3 - Music
Choose another person's character - it can't be the same one you chose in parts 1 or 2. Using the information given, compose a short piece of music (it could be a song, or a instrumental piece, etc) create a minimum 30-second piece that could serve as that character's theme in a movie or tv show!

Part 4 - Free
Finally, using your own character, create something to do with them using one of your hobbies! It can be any hobby - including art, music, and writing - as long as you find it fun and enjoyable!

Point Values (Can be adjusted later)
1 part completed - 300 points
2 parts completed - 400 points
3 parts completed - 500 points
4 parts completed - 600 points

I'll simplify it for you. Necroposting means to post on a topic (most often the Questions about Scratch forum) that has been used with all questions answered and can be left alone. You clearly did not know what necroposting was, so no worries, but try not to do it in the future.

New ToC states no chatting until any available order is taken. Regardless of job status. Its to help orders remain unburied.

And at the time of the message the order had been placed for 30 minutes. Which means if you checked you could hv seen it and not talked. If it had been like, a minute or 2 past when the order originally got posted thats forgiveness as u probably just didnt see it.

Hi!

I was just wondering, how are new Scratch Design Studios selected? Also, does only a Scratch Team member get to be a studio host? While you are here, I was also wondering how I will get notified if someone replies to this message? Will it come in my mail box as usual or will it go somewhere else. Please answer this as I would be really grateful. I was wondering this for a long time. Thanks!
I think this is pretty self-explanatory.
right now, scratch shops find themselves in the requests forum.
my idea is to add a separate forum that will give anyone new to scratch shops a much easier time looking for shops.
with sincerity,
Me

We would be extremely happy to have you, a very talented artist, in our shop. The aesthetic thing is kind of just to make it look pretty, not like a hierarchy of aesthetic and non-aesthetic.

We do, but are not limited to, aesthetic artwork.

Same. I mostly use beepbox mods, such as Jummbox and Ultraabox, which look extremely complicated, but once you get used to them, they're not bad.
For a couple of random things, I use Band Lab. I don't want to diss on it, it's just kinda basic.
For classical things/stuff for my school band, I either use Noteflight, Flat, or Musescore. Musescore is my favorite, but I don't use it often.

Before I begin to head into everything, I just have to say that this is such a great story. I couldn't stop reading, and it had me wanting more once I finished. It's very hard to find any flaws, it's very well written; it sounds professional! I really enjoyed this piece, and if you continue to write on this I'd definitely want to read it.
Going into reviewing everything, I think the beginning was the best part. It's very descriptive, and the dialog is great.

There is more than what Eden is telling you.
The other realms are free, warm and wonderful.
The war is not going well for Eden, because the might of Orbit is not on their side.
I really like this! At the very beginning of your story, I noticed you capitalized ‘War’, so I would capitalize it here as well.

Something I noticed here:
“Anywhere far away.” Her eyes slitted. “Go to a realm against Eden. There… try to survive. Now, run!”
The sentence ‘there…try to survive’ doesn't really flow, maybe remove the There or re-write the sentence entirely.

Dread thundered in Ikaria’s heart, and she tried not to turn around – knowing she’d be frozen in fear forever if she did, but she couldn’t help herself.
The ‘forever’, again, doesn't really flow. I would just remove it.

The krill shrieked as it sped towards them, lunging towards Rahu and Ikaria
You used ‘towards’ twice. Maybe the second one could be replaced with another word.

Haha, I had more corrections but I lost them, so I would look through once again. I found once that you said Ikario instead of Ikaria, and once where you used a different verb tense but again, I lost it :')
Other than that, it's amazing!

Because that line became a meme thanks to Sonic 06. I don't even know what the heck a “budokai tenkaichi” is.
I played Sonic '06 and that never happened.
Have you made it to Silver's boss fight?
I beat the entire game.

Yeah, I was reading once in the Discuss pages that a lot of things have been rejected because New Scratchers understand, although I agree that this should be available for all, I'm just trying whatever I can to not get it rejected.

I realize this is not the main point of the post - but I feel that any feature like this ought to be available to all Scratchers. Surely AI like this would make project-making simpler for new Scratchers?

With regards to the post itself, I feel this has to be addressed by the Scratch team - especially as implementation with AI could be a bit icky.

Hmm… I'll do that shortly
How about this:
when this sprite clicked
if <<[insert rating] > [4.5]>> then
set [emoji] to [:D]
else
if <<[insert rating] > [3.5]>> then
set [emoji] to [:)]
else
if <<[insert rating] > [2.5]>> then
set [emoji] to [:|]
else
if <<[insert rating] > [1.5]>> then
set [emoji] to [:/]
else
if <<[insert rating] < [1.6]>> then
set [emoji] to [:(]
else

end
end
end
end
end

though the code from V1 to click the stars would be added into this code, maybe a few changes though.
oh, and we should add a way to rate it using half stars too, so that people can give a more accurate rating.
sure thing! i'll talk to the UI scratchers about this!!
How It Could Help

I'm not sure if Scratch would even want this because of their guidelines about making Scratch easy for beginners, but I've always thought there should be some sort of AI functions that we could use in projects, not to make it just create the whole project for us, but use it for some of the examples below the text.

New Scratchers

If Scratch doesn't like the idea of this because it's too complicated for new people, it could just simply be a feature for Full Scratchers and not New Scratchers.

A Few Examples:

ask [What Is The Capital Of France?] and wait
if <(answer) is along the lines of [Paris]> then
say [Correct!] for (2) secs
end

This helps for answers that aren't perfectly the answer, maybe a miss-spelling or if they answer with “The …….. Is …..”

if <(answer) = <asking a question>> then
answer (answer) in (1) sentences
end

This helps for more responses to questions.

move this sprite to x: (0) y: (0) by [gliding]

hide this sprite by [bursting into flames and becoming a rock]

This can help do things that we can't with basic tools.

Now obviously, too much freedom with AI in Scratch would be pointless because you could make something like:

AI, do: [make a platformer game in 3D with enemies and a dragon boss fight at the end]
- This Is Made To Show A Bad Example Of AI Help

So I've added things that have their limitations, things that won't just allow a project to be almost made entirely by itself, but just help add some more things to stop serious limitations.

I'm quite surprised this isn't already a feature (and that I hadn't noticed this before, haha!) - the Inspect Element workaround is a long solution and quite inaccessible in my opinion, especially with the previously brought up iOS concerns.

I'm personally all for this suggestion - with regard to implementation, I imagine a system like the one on the Scratch Forums would work - by which I mean, where the timestamp offers a hyperlink to the comment.

My only potential point of contention is that it could lead to ‘brigading’ - in which people link to a comment by an user they don't like with the aim of getting people to comment potentially nasty and Terms of Service-breaking things, which is currently an issue on other sites that have similar features. However, I don't see this as a big concern - in my time on Scratch, I've only seen it with the current system with projects twice, and with comments perhaps once? As a result, we can probably dismiss this contention - though it's perhaps something worth noting.

There's a pretty cool infinite sum that can be used to calculate pi:

(I swear there's an image, cubeupload's just down)
However, it's pretty slow. You have to sum like the first thousand terms of the terms to get like the first four places of pi.

There's a faster one called the Machin formula, but it requires a little more math:

(There's also an image here)
You can find the arctangent block from the operators section:
([atan v] of ())
Scratch is not precise enough.

* * *

Decimals in Scratch aren't infinitely precise. The computer uses 58 bits, which equates to about 10 digits.

fairly simple levels, but each game in the series introduced a new control- such a one that killed enemies, jumping higher, etc. there keys for these special controls were Z,X,C … and continued along the last row of the keyboard
most levels had text on them, but the text was written letter by letter, and while it spelled out you couldn't move the character, which was pretty irritating
