Its not finished. And i switched to turbowarp halfway through. This is unfinished but it contains game mechanics, music and custom editor. Turbowarp version has menu, custom music (this couldnt really be done legally or without a actual server so this is where my project failed), delta-time support, working level skip and barely any bugs compared the scratch version.

When do you think we will begin setting the groundworks for the mechanics and such? Or rather add tasks to the “To Do” tab in trello

As soon as… we finalize our team and game name. Then I'll request an icon from one of our artists, add this collab to the collab directory, and while that goes on, we can talk about mechanics and game genres. So as soon as we figure out what we're called and what the name is called.

Everyone, please suggest ideas! This is a collaborative effort, and (I can see you guys actually like “Kokoro Beats” haha) we still need a team name. And to come to a consensus with the game name. I'd like all the votes and ideas in by… Monday the 19th, if possible. It's only like a one-minute process, so…

Yeah because i looked into the reference game and it was for mobile. So is the game going to be mobile only? I dont see a way to transform it to fit pc unless you use the mouse Maybe you could lock the mouse the the X axis so that it didnt matter how much you moved your mouse up or down.

I just came up with a random idea to put into team name ideas, what about ‘Soundwave productions’ or something like that?

I'm thinking actually to make this PC friendly first, and then maybe mobile controls. The keys will be the standard “ASDF” and “JKL:”

Nice! That sounds good Just need others for their feedback.

And to everyone in general, the “Backlog” list is for ALL the tasks that we need to do. Once they're ready to be worked on, they'll be moved to “To Do”. When being worked on, move the tasks to “Doing” and if you're working on it, add yourself to the card. These tasks will also need a basic DOD for themselves. If you were working on something but something else came up that disabled you from working on your task, move the card to “Blocked” and in the comments add a brief reason why. With blocked items, we need to make sure that we clear the path so development can continue freely. Any questions or comments?

Well, this game will be similar and very inspired-off-of Project Sekai, but not an exact clone. And besides, I think it might be possible to have a mobile-friendly and PC-friendly interface. Probably have touch-sensitive keys in the same positions that correspond with the keyboard keys. And as for the notes that slide across the screen, that'd… be really hard if not impossible, but that's okay! We can just make different notes that are just as fun.

That sounds good, thanks. Could you add that on Trello as a task? I made an example card in the Backlog list.

Also, announcement!! The name of the game will be Kokoro Beats and our team name will be Soundwave Productions. We unfortunately can't wait for any longer consideration to be made, so those two will be chosen and used going forward. Artists and designers, could we get together to discuss the game logo? Designers and coders, let's also go over the game mechanics and what will be incorporated in this game.

Um, that could be a possible use-case, yes. I was also thinking about sharing “unlimited” media files and other things that the project might call for.
Quick question, what theme are we going for? Or like any colors that I should use??? Imma start coming up with ideas for the game logo. Also, speaking of the logo, what size should it be?

Well, the name of the game is “Kokoro Beats”, which translates to “Heart Beats”. So I want something modern, upbeat, colorful, and maybe something that deals with “hearts” and “love”? For the logo, I kinda want a heartbeat/rhythm beat to be in there, everything else is essentially full freedom. For the size, however, maybe standard wallpaper size? We can always downsize it for Scratch.

BlauHourglass wrote:

Overall Game Elements:
  • Visual novel styled dialogue
  • Rhythm game
  • Gacha system (MAYBE)
  • NPC relationships (will trigger certain events, art, stories, and songs)
  • Save function
  • RPG-styled movement

Visual Novel:
  • Static images of characters speaking with different expressions
  • Active relationship meter at the top with typical VN dialogue settings
  • Slightly transparent textbox at the bottom
  • Hopefully with voice actors… but this is ancillary…

Rhythm Game:
  • Notes flow from the top middle to a large scale towards the bottom (Just like PJSK)
  • 2 Game Modes (PC + Mobile)
  • -> PC = standard single notes + hold notes
  • -> Mobile = standard single notes + hold notes + sliders (MOBILE is currently 2ND priority)
  • Dark + light mode? Also not MVP
  • Standard options for note speed, volume, etc

Gacha System:
  • Not very flushed out, I admit…
  • Currency is “Beats” or something like that…
  • “Beats” are earned by quests or playing the songs

Story:
  • Player controls a character, finally!
  • At start of game, player chooses gender and name
  • The main place is set in “International Academy of Music” or something like that
  • Age-range is standard high school years, because Scratch.

Miscellaneous Game Mechanics:
  • The world is set to be sorta like a top-down pixel RPG (Omori, Pixel Dungeon, etc, etc…)
  • Player can be customized (Not MVP)
  • Profile can be customized (We'll probably make this a multiplayer, I'm not sure yet…)
  • In main lobby/home/whatever, player can view relationships, songs, stories/events, and profile…
  • NPCs that the player builds enough RP(relationship points) with can join you with special attributes/buffs during rhythm game or lounge in player's main screen…

Let me know your thoughts! I'll go ahead and quote this on the 5th page too.
Welp
Because I'm done with the game icon, can I work on the loading screen or smth?

Cotton_Scratch wrote:

Yes! We use kanban here, so essentially pick a task that you want to do and do it; just follow the card assignment and DOD stuff when you do.

And to everyone else, feel free to add more cards into the Backlog. Literally EVERYTHING is a task that needs to be added and worked on, haha. Not everything is MVP, but we'll work on that later. Thanks.

  • keys on the key bar
  • keys coming towards the key bar
  • key holds
  • key hold ends

also, indev version of the map creator is out. Its only shared to be able to access turbowarp's debugging features, but you guys can check it out.

Can you make a list of all the art needed? I know the basic theme but I don't know what exactly I need to draw.
Yeah, I need to actually add them as cards on Trello. I would like some help from my designers, too, but that's all right…
Go ahead and start focusing on the keys that Jared asked for, though. Those are high priority. I'll create cards for them; just add yourself and follow the process as you do them, alright?

Some characters can be based off of us as dev-cameos! I just thought it'd be really cool idea if any of you wanna entertain the idea.

And one more thing: is anyone here familiar with Zoho Cliq or Github?
unfortunately no… sorry!

(wow, the team has gotten so much bigger now :gasp: this is going to be amazing)

edit: i just added myself to some things on trello, and i could also help with story writing once characters have been created. should we split it up (i.e. assign a number of characters to members of the team)?
oh, and is anyone already doing the note designs? i didnt see anyone on the trello yet but let me know if you are, maybe we can work together on it anyways ^^

Yeah, so feel free to start designing yourself as a character! I'll explain more on the environment in my next post or something…

Yes, it has! I'm very pleased with how it's going. Did you get caught up on what I set down on the first page? Essentially the game overview?
