I have a plot idea that I’m super excited about and I think campers will really love. We would be the Fanfiction Variance Authority, which is vaguely inspired by the Time Variance Authority from Loki. The goal of the Fanfiction Variance Authority is to control the fanfiction that people are allowed to write, keeping everything true to the fandom of origin, eliminating crossovers, alternate universes, and canon divergence.
This, obviously, is very creatively limiting. So a small group of rebels has emerged within the Fanfiction Variance Authority and they’re resisting these regulations by writing rule-breaking fanfictions and spreading them about.
The campers will be split randomly into two teams, the FVA Agents and the FVA Rebels. They will not know who the other members of their team are. The teams compete with each other to earn the most points by the end of camp.
Each team has three ways to earn points. Firstly, any currency earned by anyone counts as a point for their team. Secondly, if someone from one team successfully identifies someone from the opposite team, they earn a handful of points and the person they identified has to play for the opposite team for 24 hours. And lastly, the main event of the storyline is a fanfiction the campers, both teams, plot together. At the beginning, when campers are notified, I’ll ask each one for a couple fandoms they’re most familiar with, and the most common answer will decide the setting and characters the fanfiction starts out with, though I’ll make it clear that they are not to spoil anything major. Every so often, hopefully about once a day, I’ll post a prompt or question that the campers get to answer to advance the fanfiction we’re writing. The FVA agents want to reply in ways that fit with the original story and make sense, and the rebels want to reply in ways that will cause the most chaos. So if all goes well the story will be a mix of sense and nonsense and feel almost like it’s arguing with itself. The first reply my comment gets will be the one that’s added to the story, and the team who posted it will gain a number of points.
At the end of camp, the team with the most points will win infinite bragging rights and will decide whether the Fanfiction Variance Authority continues or whether fanfiction writers will be free to write whatever they please. Also we’ll have a chaotic and awesome collaborative story to remember the session by.

description i gave sienna:

my idea for fan-fi is based loosely on marvel’s recent loki show, though no knowledge of the show is required to be able to fully participate in the cabin. if you don’t know, the premise of the show involves an organization called the time variance authority, or TVA, which is dedicated to making sure time proceeds as it should and no-one disrupts the proper order of things. this translates into my cabin concept, the fanfiction variance authority (FVA). the FVA is dedicated to managing the fanfiction that gets written, and not letting anyone write fanfiction that isn’t canon compliant (canon compliant basically means it doesn’t change any of the events that happen in the original media if you aren’t aware of fanfiction terms). this means no changing anything, which pretty much results in no creativity being allowed. because of this, a group of people have formed a rebellion against the FVA, to overthrow it and allow fanfiction to be written however one chooses. this is where the plot of the cabin picks up. each (co)leader will be on either the FVA’s side or the rebellion’s side, (i haven’t decided which team should have two (co)leaders yet) and the campers will be randomly sorted between the two teams when we get them, and they won’t know who else is on their team. the two teams compete throughout the session to earn points. the ways they can do this are: completing swc activities, identifying someone from the other team (in which case the identified camper must play for the opposite team for 24 hours), and lastly by contributing to a cabin-wide fanfiction. this is the element of the plot i’m most excited about. every day or so. one of us (co)leaders will post a prompt or question to help the campers continue the plot of a fanfiction. the campers get to respond, and the first response is added to the plot and that camper is given points. the campers try to match their team in their responses without giving away their team. so rebels try to cause chaos and the FVA agents try to keep things as orderly as possible. but not in such an obvious way that they get identified and made to play for the other team. in the end, the team with the most points decides how fanfics are allowed to be written. and we’ll post the completed fanfic as a chaotic collaborative writing piece to remember the session by.

some other ideas i’m considering:

- each of us having temporary loki-themed nicknames?
- in-cabin dailies inspired by influential fandoms or ships (there’s information and statistics out there to help us with this ) these wouldn’t be super connected, so people unfamiliar with the fandoms could still do them as well. things like “write about aliens”, “write about good and evil”, and similar.
- colour scheme of green and gold (loki colours), red (ao3 colour), and purple (for balance)
- cabin bonding and get-to-know-your-leaders games

hi there ! sorry for taking a minute to hop on here, but here are some of my thoughts on what you’ve shared so far

first, this is so cool, and even reading your app i was really looking forward to seeing the cabin come to life, so im super excited to help out <3 i love the whole concept! i like the layers of fanfic in it if that makes sense :0

there is one thing i think we should possibly consider changing up a bit, that is, splitting the campers into teams? i really love the idea and i’m kind of loathe to discard it entirely, but i think it might be a little confusing to campers, especially new or less active ones, since there would be competition amongst the cabin as well as across swc as a whole—i guess i’m just saying we should think through some ways to streamline it or make it even more easily explainable if we end up using it, that’s all, and everything else looks fantastic!

looks like a great start! i love the reasons behind the colors! the one thing i think might make the color pallette a little more cohesive as a whole would be to have more of a maroon or burgundy instead of both the purple and red<3 (unless we were just going to use them separately, half for the FVA, half for the rebels, which sounds cool, too )

I do think there’s probably a way to get competition within the cabin to work out, as other cabins have managed to pull it off in the past. we probably will have to work on the logistics of explaining it to the campers though.

i took the colours directly from official loki promotional material and the official ao3 symbol, except the purple. is there a way to make it seem more cohesive by changing the purple to something else but leaving the other three intact? or we could build off your idea and play with the way the colours contrast as it relates to the plot.

also, poppy did accept cj’s offer so it’s time to discuss who the third co should be if we want one.

so, more of my thoughts on colors~
playing mostly off of the pallete you sent, we could potentially darken up the green and lighten the gold (or vice versa? just adding some contrast in there this also doesn’t have to be too pronounced since they are the official colors and we want to stick pretty close to them), then replace the purple with a more neutral color? probably a very pale warm tone so that the green stands out more as the lone cool tone?

or, to keep with the color inspiration but change it up a bit, we could use a pale beige and an orange and a mint-ish green (TVA colors, like from his jumpsuit -beige and the orange of the tva logo- and the walls for the mint/turquoise) (we could also add a color to finish up this pallete, maybe a dark color? like a dark reddish brown for some contrast and also as an homage to the ao3 red?)

i also might have more ideas based off the original colors if i swatch some concepts. i can try and do that soon unless you are set on a pallette idea we’ve talked about thus far

so yeah! those are just a few of my thoughts,, based on my very limited knowledge of color theory haha</3 so what do you think? :0

do you want to experiment a bit with possible colour schemes? i was also trying to fit tva colours in but it kind of made it chaotic. i’d be interested to see if you come up with anything <3

also cabin activity idea that i seriously love!!! we’re already asking campers for their favourite fandoms for the collaborative story. what if we also put these into a project that will randomly generate a fandom and a dialogue prompt for the campers to write a short fanfiction based on? they can do this as many times as they want but they only get points for one each day.

any of these jump out to you? i’m more happy with the lower row (4 is the one based off the TVA) - 5 is particularly nice color-wise but doesn’t fit the themes as well. thoughts?
we could also change up one or two of the colors of an existing swatch. (eg, change the red in 2 to a green)

could you take 6, make the gold a bit more orange to be reminiscent of both loki and the tva, and make the blue a bit more purple? or what if we discard the green and do red, orange-gold, and purple? and maybe a grey?

i quite like B (though it still prolly needs some fine tuning, not sure about the lilac-y gray i chose)! for me now it’d probably be a tie between B and 4. :0 but C is also much better than 6 haha-

i don’t think taking out the green really keeps the loki vibes, though i do like it. c looks very loki/tva but doesn’t have the homage to ao3. would a red or red-purple work in place of the blue? and either keep the rest the same or replace the beige with a cool grey to not have the green seem out of place? would that make sense?

hmm i think i prefer Y, X, 4, and 3. (that’s kind of a long list :sob: but i could probably figure out just 1-2 that i prefer if you need more exact input to decide<3)

just quickly while I'm here, have we considered making the purple and green darker and a bit more muted to keep it cohesive? for example i really like the green in x (maybe have it a bit darker) and we could have the purple match with that? I'll experiment on procreate and show u guys what conclusion i come to <3

so i tried to fit in the tva yellow in cause of what soki was trying to do and i personally think the purple suits well as it is quite a prominent colour in the backgrounds of the loki-verse :^) a lot of the colours are colour picked from vi's swatches cause i think the dark blue and the red suited really well, like when i look at this colour combo i think about loki. lmk what you guys think and feel free to use that coolor base and build off of it <3

and about these colours, I feel like a lot of them are taken from a specific outfit of Lokis, and some of the colours are a little bit ashy (especially for a fanfic cabin where i feel like an upbeat colour scheme would suit the nature of the genre, what do you think?). i do like the deep green at the far right though and the orange !
if you two like it though I'm perfectly happy with it, it definitely does give loki vibes

i agree with all of what vi said here! especially with the camper teams thing, i love the idea behind it but was wondering if there was any way for us to either simplify the concept or make it easier to understand? just because speaking from experience when i join a new camp (just joined jwc), it takes me time to like adjust to the gist of all the cabins versing one another, let alone trying to understand conflict within the cabin? i hope that makes sense, for clarification though i don't want to get rid of the idea i feel like it would add a really fun competitive aspect to fan-fiction!

yayy guys we have our colour scheme down one step closer to creating our (hopefully) winning cabin >: ))

i think if we make a really good cabin guide it’ll be able to help newer campers understand. and if any of them need further support we can help them during camp. in-cabin competition is somewhat common, so it’s definitely possible to pull it off.

and i was thinking because of how many people keep bringing up that soki rhymes with loki that we should each have a temporary, like, secondary nickname of a loki character who sounds somewhat like our name. (this is also a thing i’ve seen other cabins do before) i haven’t come up with anything for nini yet but vi could maybe be ravonna? which would make her FVA and me a rebel. if you have a character you want that doesn’t sound like nini that could work too

vi, do you mind going to the cabin studio and adding “ *oink oink* “ to the chain with nini and i? i just think it’d be funny lol

so just from looking at the loki character list and from my memory there aren't really any characters that go with nini, but i think it would be a funny idea for me to go by something like agent nini, like agent mobius >: ), would this put me on the tva or rebel side? (I'm happy with either) OR i could be a neutral since there are three of us and two on one side would create an imbalance

quick question too, would each of our sides be a secret as leaders?

i agree with these points! are we going to have a fanfiction-esque paragraph entrance to the studio description which subtly talks campers through the storyline?
and another question, is there like a checklist of stuff we need to prepare for our cabin? i'm new to coleading and personally love to keep track of things with lists, so that would really help me understand our goals.

i think we’ll likely have a to-do list at some point unless soki usually does something different i don’t think there’s any official one for leaders tho! we’ll likely just talk about all the typical things and whether or how we want to do them but i’m sure soki has something more to say on this i’m just wanting to give you a quick reply before i log off for the night<3

i don’t think three cos is an option this session? (edit: just saw the post in the hobbit hole. i’m not sure we need one, but in the other hand it might be helpful since we have a complex storyline to manage. thoughts?)

and yes, i’m planning on creating a list. i’m just trying to get through the things we have closer deadlines on (colour scheme, blurb. and symbol) first.
