I think scratch should change all pfps to a circle shape. This is because most websites use a circle-shaped pfp instead of a square-shaped pfp. For some users, it might seem pointless but it's not hard to implement. Also, when have you seen a website use a square shaped pfp.

I think it would be easier to make custom profile pictures in the Scratch editor provided that they are square.

Just because other websites do it doesn't mean that scratch should do it.

I feel as if that was as in-depth as it can get. Just because other websites make money does scratch have to? No. Just because other websites have ads does that mean Scratch doesnt have to? No. Square PFPs are just easier to make sure you include everything you want in your pfp.

This makes sense. Maybe there should be an option to make your image a circle shape? Someone might not want to make their image a circle shape.
Maybe there should be a dialog that appears when you change your PFP that asks you if you want the image to be square or rounded.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm talking about. I personally would prefer everyone's pfp as a circle but I'm just asking what the community thinks.

Hmm, interesting opinion. I get what you mean but why is a square a better option than a circle, I guess you can include more stuff in your pfp than circle. When I asked for a more in-death reason I meant why is a square a better option than a circle. Sorry for the inconvience.

Why should they do this? There is nothing bad about square profile pictures and nothing inherently better about circle profile pictures. If you really wanted a circle profile picture, you could add a border around it that makes it look like a circle profile picture.

Hmm, good idea. I might just test it later to see how it goes.

I like the square profile pictures better. (My opinion.) It is actually possible to have a circular profile picture already, if one uses a transparent PNG. Of course, this does not change the space for the profile picture; the space will still be a square.
I'm pretty sure this is a duplicate, but I will have to check later.
Maybe you should rename the topic PFP Shape, since this suggestion is not about size.

And I have done just that. It looks like a perfect circle

An optioin seems nice. But I feel making even an option for it to be a circle is too much based off of google's profiles

I'd like to interject with a reason this post might not make sense; When designing a profile picture, there are ways to Round image corners to a circle by maxing out the round edge function or just use a clipping function in a Free art program. You can export as a transparent png (no background image) and easily make a circle pfp without having to have an option on the scratch site.

There’s a workaround to this, make the image a circular PNG and upload it to your pfp.

my pfp would look horrible as a circle….. and also not look good with the gui

You provided 0 other reason other than other websites use it. It is basically pointless even if it isn't hard to implement.

If this were added, then people with square pfp's like randomguy up here would need to do extra homework to fix it, it would just be too much work for a relatively small feature that most people wouldn't like.
