Welcome to the public Scratch Wiki forum topic!

We recommend that before you post anything, you read the Community Portal archives to see if your question has been answered. There are also FAQs below.

Types of posts that are cool

  • Asking a question about the Wiki
  • Answering a question someone has asked
  • Constructive criticism on how the Wiki can improve (e.g. “I think this could be better like this” or “you're missing something here”)
  • General suggestions

Types of posts that don't go here

Anything not directly related to the Wiki does not go on this topic. Please post them in their own topics.
  • Questions about Scratch - please make a topic of your own in this forum, instead of posting here
  • Asking for help with a project - please make a topic in the Help with Scripts subforum
  • Suggestions for blocks to be added - please post in Suggestions
  • Account troubles (e.g. bans) - please use Contact Us instead of posting anywhere

Types of posts that aren't cool

Anything that doesn't follow Community Guidelines is not okay for here, including:
  • Disrespectful posts
  • Posts with inappropriate content
  • Spam or advertisements - keep that in the Show and Tell forum
  • Destructive criticism (e.g. “the Wiki is stupid!” or “my account request was rejected! you're the worst people in the world”)

FAQs

Q: I have a Scratch account! Why can't I sign in/edit the wiki?
A: You cannot edit/sign in because a Scratch account does not correspond to a Scratch Wiki account. You need to request for a Scratch Wiki account to edit. You can do so here: S:JOIN

Q: Why is the header color different than the Scratch header?
A: The Scratch Wiki is independently run, and is on different servers and a different domain. To distinguish the main website from the Wiki, the (default*) header color is different between the two sites.
* Logged in users are able to change the color of the header to their liking.

Q: How do I become an EW/admin/bureaucrat?
A: EWs are elected, usually every one to two years. Administrators are appointed by current administrators and/or bureaucrats, which typically happens during an election as well. Bureaucrats are either Scratch Team members or appointed (but far more infrequently - there has been a total of one occasion of bureaucrats being appointed in history).

Hey there! This sounds super cool! But I have a question that has been on my mind for a while:
If you sign up for a Wiki account or if you get accepted, do you get an email about all of this Wiki stuff?

No; not that I know of.

Actually, if your account is accepted you get an email with a temporary password to log in with; there are also options for additional email notifications that are off by default.
May I ask why this may exist? Why not use the CP?

Because not all Scratchers can use the CP! You can only use the CP if you have a wiki account - for here you only need to have a Scratch account, so questions can come more directly.

Great job! Why did did it transfer to the new domain? Also, if I sign up to be a Wiki Editor, what am I supposed to do?(I know there's an application process)
One more thing, AgentQuirt becoming FPC was shown a few days late. Why?

That was due to WikiMonitor being turned off by a vandal. WikiMonitor has a script that detects new curators and adds them to the section. It also removes the least recent event, I believe.

The rationale for the transfer can be found in the Wiki CP topic here.

The application process can be found here.
Wait- I thought you were going to get this stickied according to the real community portal discussion? I’ll report it to be stickied anyways

Yeah! It's so strange.
Does anyone know why?

Edit: New page!

AfraidRacer wrote:

Yeah, that was by request of the Scratch Team. (By the way, you got the shade of purple wrong - it's not PURPLE it's PURPLE.) You can see the Wiki CP post here.

Oh wow it has! In my opinion it doesn't really fit in with the rest of the theme though…

EDIT: Oh, so the Wiki is not longer part of MIT. Does anyone know why?

Because the Wiki is no longer on MIT servers.

But why is it no longer on the MIT servers?

Because of the server transfer.

If you have a Scratch Wiki account you can now change the color. (but you can't if you don't have a Scratch Wiki account)

Hey everyone! I'll quickly just quote my CP post here so people following this topic can also see what's going on

Kenny2scratch wrote:

Those of you logging onto the Wiki after now might notice there's suddenly a little dropdown arrow next to all the header buttons. Click on it, and you'll find out why - the buttons are now dropdowns! The Create dropdown has links to create a project and a page; the Explore dropdown has links to explore projects and the Wiki (via Special:Random); the Discuss dropdown has links to the forums, the Wiki CP forum topic, and the CP; the Tips dropdown has links to the Scratch Tips page and the Wiki FAQ; and the About dropdown has links to pages about Scratch and about the Wiki.

Since all of this really squashes the search bar, I made it so that when the search bar is focused, it expands and fills up all the space, so that when searching you can still see what you're typing. Defocusing the search bar (i.e. clicking away) will make it return to normal size.

Tell me if there are any bugs, and hope y'all like it!

How do you post on talk pages? I've been on the wiki for four months. I am kind of having a hard time understanding it.

the Scratch Wiki has things about Scratch, like Wikipedia.

If you want to join the Wiki, you need to request an account of Scratch Wiki.
