A while ago, I used to play Animal Jam. When you sign up for Animal Jam and make your username, if the name you want is taken, it says “Your name is already taken by another player. Here are our suggestions for other names you could try: yourname123 , yourname5678, 123yourname456.”

I think Scratch should have this too. When a friend of mine was signing up for Scratch, they really wanted a certain username that was taken, but all the combinations they tried of that name were also taken. It would be nice if Scratch offered a couple username choices that were not taken, but similar to your name of choice, and would make picking a username a lot easier.

I'd say I semi-support this, when I was making my account I wanted to make my username “LionHeart” but that was taken, so was “LionHeart7”, so I went to “LionHeart70”. About 2 years and a month and a half later, when I made my side account -CanisMajor-, I found that “CanisMajor” was taken, so I used “-CanisMajor-”.
Though, I kinda figured out how to select my username on my own if it's taken, but some users may not, so..
I don't mind if this is added, but it might select other stuff such as “HeartLion1” when I wanted to make my username “Lionheart”, not to mention that this might get a little complicated..
So.. yeah, semi-support.

This could be helpful if one cannot think of another username.
I believe the programming should use what you typed that was already taken and combine it with a number that hasn't been used yet. It should do this three times, suggest a random method for you to use if you want, and suggest trying another username if you don't like what you've come up with. For example, the message would say;

Sorry, it looks like Example has been taken. However, Example32, Example92, and Example322 haven't been taken. If numbers aren't what you'd like, you can always use hyphens - and underscores _! If you still don't like your chosen username, then you can make a new one.

The numbers provided would be the smallest that haven't been taken yet.
The alternate method would be chosen from a list like the one below.

• use hyphens - and underscores _
  

• switch the order of words, letters, and/or numbers
  

• change the case of letters
  

• make it a combo of letters and numbers
  

• ect.

This would be super helpful so that people won't have to try to come up with a different username that still gets the point across.

If someone named their account starlightsparker67, it would be kinda obvious that their not the same as starlightsparker
So I don’t think it encourages impersonation more

usually griffpatch impersonators are banned from what i've seen, as you can just report someone for it. the suggestions would still show up.

I made a alt account called cat-blocks-. But it was really hard to see that the username wasn't taken or anything close to it wasn't taken. Because they don't have recomendations. So, support.
