To build on how you interpret White Ball and Murders, The Mind Electric seems to be a continuation of that story, with Simon being brought on trial for murder (the lyrics are quite literal in this sense), with the lyrics “Resident minor how do you plead/We’ll need your testimony on the stand” seem to be the prosecution asking for whether he pleads guilty or not guilty, and the lyrics “Father your honor may I explain/My brain has claimed its glory over me/I’ve a good heart albeit enasni/Condemn him to the infirmary” seem to be Simon pleading insanity, then being sentenced to a mental hospital.
