If you find a duplicate from a search engine, wouldn't that duplicate's last post likely be a Scratch Team member redirecting the discussion to the original topic? So you can find the original thread that way.

And I'm pretty certain this was mentioned before, but how would Scratchers know where to discuss if the links to older/original topics are removed with the rest of the duplicate topic?
